Blood doesn't soak in perfectly straight lines! Anyway, I think it looks like they put some kind of wrap or covering on the mattresses but wait for the "Muh Bloody Mattresses" to spread.
OK, I've been thinking about why they would want anit-lynching legislation so badly and I think I have it.
When the truth comes out some of them are gonna get lynched. Seriously, maybe not all or even many but some people will grab a pitchfork when the truth comes out.
