Stocks, Yuan, Bond Yields Crash As Trump Unleashes New China Tariffs

Just as investors thought it was safe to buy-the f**king-dip after Powell's plunge, President Trump steals the jam out of their donut by announcing new China tariffs...

"... on September 1st, putting a small additional Tariff of 10% on the remaining 300 Billion Dollars of goods and products coming from China into our Country "

In a series of tweets, Trump laid out the state of the China trade deal... in a word - terrible...

Our representatives have just returned from China where they had constructive talks having to do with a future Trade Deal. We thought we had a deal with China three months ago, but sadly, China decided to re-negotiate the deal prior to signing. More recently, China agreed to...

...buy agricultural product from the U.S. in large quantities, but did not do so. Additionally, my friend President Xi said that he would stop the sale of Fentanyl to the United States – this never happened, and many Americans continue to die! Trade talks are continuing, and...

...during the talks the U.S. will start, on September 1st, putting a small additional Tariff of 10% on the remaining 300 Billion Dollars of goods and products coming from China into our Country. This does not include the 250 Billion Dollars already Tariffed at 25%...

...We look forward to continuing our positive dialogue with China on a comprehensive Trade Deal, and feel that the future between our two countries will be a very bright one!

Saoirse Kennedy Hill, Granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, Dies at 22 After Apparent Overdose

Saoirse Kennedy Hill, the late Robert F. Kennedy's granddaughter, has died. She was 22.

The daughter of Courtney Kennedy Hill was found dead on Thursday afternoon after reportedly suffering an apparent overdose at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, according to The New York Times. ET has reached out to Kennedy's reps for comment.

"Our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved Saoirse," the Kennedy family told the Times in a statement on Friday. "Her life was filled with hope, promise and love."

Additionally, Robert F. Kennedy's widow, Ethel Kennedy, also stated, "The world is a little less beautiful today."

Saoirse was enrolled at Boston College, where she was majoring in communications.

In a 2016 op-ed for the Deersfield Scroll, Saoirse opened up about her battle with depression and attempted suicide.

"My depression took root in the beginning of my middle school years and will be with me for the rest of my life. Although I was mostly a happy child, I suffered bouts of deep sadness that felt like a heavy boulder on my chest," she wrote. "These bouts would come and go, but they did not outwardly affect me until I was a new sophomore at Deerfield."

She then explained how someone she "knew and loved broke serious sexual boundaries with me." "I did the worst thing a victim can do, and I pretended it hadn’t happened. This all became too much, and I attempted to take my own life," she revealed.

De Blasio Lauds 'Step Toward Justice' For Eric Garner After NYPD Ruling

Bloomberg TicToc

Published on Aug 2, 2019

“Until today, the Garner family has been failed by this entire process,” de Blasio says after an NYPD judge recommended Daniel Pantaleo should be fired, adding it “reinforced a suspicion that justice doesn’t exist for people who like Eric Garner”

An administrative judge on Friday recommended firing the New York City police officer accused of using a chokehold in the 2014 death of an unarmed black man whose dying pleas of “I can’t breathe” became a rallying cry against alleged police brutality.

Soon after the recommendation became public, the police department suspended Officer Daniel Pantaleo, saying such a move was standard in disciplinary cases where termination has been recommended. A spokesman reiterated that the final punishment decision rests with the commissioner and said the department would not comment further until he makes his decision

The judge’s findings in Pantaleo’s disciplinary case were provided to his lawyer and the city agency that acted as a prosecutor at his department trial last spring.

“Today’s decision confirms what the Civilian Complaint Review Board always has maintained: Officer Daniel Pantaleo committed misconduct on July 17, 2014, and his actions caused the death of Eric Garner,” said Fred Davie, chairman of the review board that served as the prosecutor.

Pantaleo’s lawyer will have about two weeks to submit responses before Police Commissioner James O’Neill makes his decision.

“All of New York City understandably seeks closure to this difficult chapter in our city’s history,” said Deputy Commissioner Phillip Walzak.

The administrative judge, NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Trials Rosemarie Maldonado, had been tasked with deciding whether Pantaleo used a banned chokehold to take Eric Garner to the ground during a tense confrontation on a Staten Island street.

Pantaleo’s lawyers had argued he used an approved “seat belt” technique to subdue Garner, who refused to be handcuffed after officers accused him of selling untaxed cigarettes.

Videos taken by bystanders showed Garner crying out “I can’t breathe” at least 11 times before he fell unconscious. The medical examiner’s office said a chokehold contributed to Garner’s death.

The head of the Police Benevolent Association, the city’s largest police union, called the judge’s recommendation “purely political insanity” and warned that if O’Neill fires Pantaleo it will paralyze the department.

Edward Snowden to publish memoir titled 'Permanent Record' about mass surveillance

Edward Snowden will release a memoir chronicling his time in the US government and his decision to leak highly classified documents related to mass surveillance.

Permanent Recod will be published on 17 September 2019 by Pan Macmillan in the UK and Metropolitan Books in the US.

The former CIA agent and National Security Agency (NSA) contractor made headlines in 2013, when he released thousands of documents and transformed the debate about government surveillance around the world.

According to Pan Macmillan, Snowden will be “bringing the reader along as he helps to create this system of mass surveillance, and then experiences the crisis of conscience that led him to try to bring it down”.

Notable revelations included a massive program collecting metadata on millions of domestic phone calls. Snowden, who faces US charges that could land him in prison, is currently living in exile in Moscow. He has been widely condemned by intelligence officials, who allege that Snowden has caused lasting damage to national security, and defended by civil libertarians and other privacy advocates who praise Snowden for revealing the extent of information the government was gathering.

“Edward Snowden decided at the age of 29 to give up his entire future for the good of his country,” John Sargent, CEO of Macmillan, said in a statement. “He displayed enormous courage in doing so, and like him or not, his is an incredible American story. There is no doubt that the world is a better and more private place for his actions. Macmillan is enormously proud to publish Permanent Record

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Doctor Experimenting on Children as Young as 8 for Transgender Therapy with Government Funding

by Brian Shilhavy

Editor, Health Impact News

Dr. Michael Laidlaw, an endocrinologist from Rocklin, California, recently discovered via a Freedom of Information Act that a government-supported research program at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was experimenting on children as young as 8 years old with cross-sex hormones.

Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy, who runs the Los Angeles study, received a $5.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH.)

There are currently more than 30 clinics for transgender children in the U.S.

Olson-Kennedy’s clinic, the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, is the country’s largest, treating 725 children.

Her youngest patient is 3 years old. (Source.)

Dr. Laidlaw discussed his findings at a recent panel discussion sponsored by the Heritage Foundation

“Imagine giving eight-year-old girls testosterone. They are in third or fourth grade. This is unbelievable. But this is going on.”

Dr. Laidlaw said the minimum age for giving cross-sex hormones had been lowered from 13 to 8 in the NIH funded five-year study. He stated that there is an absence of clinical data on “transgender-affirming therapy” indicating it is a good idea or is at all healthy for the children.

There’s little to stop these researchers from merely removing the gonads of a four- or five-year-old child who identifies as transgender as an ad-hoc puberty-blocker in a rush to “affirm” their identity. (Source.)

Dr. Laidlaw stated that puberty blockers are administered on a wholly unscientific basis, relying on the child’s “gender identity.”

“There is no objective test to diagnose this,” he said, “yet we are giving very harmful therapies on the basis of no objective diagnosis.”

Such therapy can make the child sterile, a risk young children of that age are not old enough to understand.

Walt Heyer also spoke at the Heritage Foundation Panel, and refers to himself as a “former transgender.” He refers to such treatment as is funded by the NIH “child abuse,” and said he claims to have spoken to many transgender individuals who called transitioning “the biggest mistake” of their lives.

Another panel member was Dr. Marian Rutigliano, who questioned parents trusting doctors for knowing what is best for their children at such a young age. RT.com reports:

For parents who believe they are placing their trust in doctors knowing what’s best for their child, panelist Dr. Marian Rutigliano revealed that the AAP’s 2016 guidelines on caring for trans-identifying children were written by a 12-person panel on which less than half the members were even physicians, led by a 25-year-old trans-identified female – and one of those physicians worked at a clinic in which every single child who came in for a consultation was considered “appropriate for transition.”

Doctors who do attempt to stand up to the current vogue in transitioning kids are bullied or harassed into silence, often losing their positions, Rutigliano said. (Source.)

Addressing cross-sex hormones RT.com also reports:

Already, children as young as eight or nine can be given puberty-blockers – which halt the child’s development into an adult of their biological sex in preparation for taking the cross-sex hormones which bestow the secondary sex characteristics of the opposite – according to Endocrine Society and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines.

These drugs have not been FDA-approved for this purpose and must be prescribed off-label, and their known side-effects include interruption of normal brain and bone development, as well as increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and various types of cancer.

Jeff Bezos sells $1.8 billion worth of Amazon stock in three days

Published Thu, Aug 1 2019 9:01 AM EDT

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos sold about $1.8 billion worth of stock in the company over the final three days of July.

Bezos previously told reporters he would sell $1 billion in stock each year to fund his space company, Blue Origin.

The sale is Bezos’ first since October 2018 and appears to be his largest ever over such a short period.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos sold more than $1.8 billion worth of shares in the company in the final three days of July, new federal filings show.

The sale marked Bezos’ first since October of last year, when he sold $33 million worth of stock, according to forms filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. This time, Bezos sold more than 950,000 shares over three sales between July 29 and July 31 at a price of about $1,900 per share. After the most recent sale, Bezos still owns 58.1 million shares in Amazon.

The sale appears to be Bezos’ largest over such a short period in the history of the company based on dollar value. Bezos told reporters in 2017 that he plans to sell about $1 billion in Amazon stock each year to fund his space exploration company, Blue Origin. Separately, Bezos and his now ex-wife MacKenzie pledged $2 billion in 2018 to launch the “Day One Fund” to help homeless families and create preschools.

In his divorce settlement with his wife MacKenzie Bezos, Jeff Bezos kept 75% of the couple’s Amazon stock and voting control over MacKenzie Bezos’ shares.

Amazon declined to comment further on the recent filings.

After the sale, Bezos’ net worth will be about $115 billion, Forbes estimated.

Trump Rips California Democrats For Destroying San Francisco, Los Angeles

8/1/2019

President Donald Trump addressed a large rally crowd in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday evening, telling them that Democrats had mis-governed many big cities — especially in California.

Trump said:

The conditions in Nancy Pelosi’s once-great city of San Francisco are deplorable.

[Crowd boos]

They’re deplorable. Do you remember the word “deplorable”?

Crowd: Yeah!

Do you remember when Hillary used the word “deplorable” — she used two words. She used “deplorable” and “irredeemable.” And only being a politician for a few years. I said, “What a terrible mistake that she used the word “irredeemable.” But it turned out to be “deplorable.” “Deplorable” was not a good day for Hillary. “Crooked Hillary,” — she is a crooked one. She is crooked.

[Crowd chants, “Lock her up!”]

Nearly half of all the homeless people living in the streets in America happen to live in the state of California. What they are doing to our beautiful California is a disgrace to our country. It’s a shame, the world is looking at it — look at Los Angeles, with the tents and the horrible, horrible, disgusting conditions. Look at San Francisco, lookat some of your other cities, and then you have a governor [Gavin Newsom] — you have a governor that invites the whole world to come into California, “We will pay for your health care, we’ll pay for –” and then you wonder why so many people are coming up. They’re coming up because we are the hottest economic country in the world, but they are also coming up because you have people like that governor saying, “Come on up! We will give you health care.” Who wouldn’t come up? Who wouldn’t come up? How crazy is this? How crazy is this?

Last month, Trump threatened to intervene in California to deal with the homeless problem, which Dr. Drew Pinsky has said is on the verge of causing an outbreak of bubonic plague.

Soledad O’Brien insults black people who support Trump

Posted on August 2, 2019

Apparently, you can’t go to a Trump rally while black without getting insulted by leftists.

Washed up actress Bette Midler was the last one we heard from on it, calling black people at Trump rallies “blackground” and that was just a week ago. Now, fourth-rate talking head Soledad O’Brien has picked up the torch to throw out another insult to black people:

See, the black people there are just hired mercenaries, hired hands, the help, not people who might actually support Trump. In O’Brien’s view, black people are incapable of “thinking for themselves,” as Candace Owens puts it, which draws many to support President Trump. She’s completely convinced that if you’re black, you must hate Trump. […]

Joe Scarborough: ‘Fat Bastard’ Trump a ‘Demagogue,’ ‘Mussolini-like

Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough lamented that Democrats did not look capable of taking on President Donald Trump in the 2020 campaign with a more aggressive approach.

Scarborough likened Trump’s demeanor to that of the “Fat Bastard” character from the “Austin Powers” movies.

“Did you see the ‘Austin Powers movies?” Scarborough said. “He sort of reminded me at times of Fat Bastard. At times he was looking at the audience. It’s a character. It’s a character. It’s a character in ‘Austin Powers.’ And he’s sniffing, and he’s looking around, and he said, thank you, thank you. I thought he was going to say, get into my stomach at one point . . . This is a guy — he is, as David Brooks said this morning in The New York Times, this is a guy, is a force, and the only way the Democrats are going to beat him is with an equal force.”

The “Morning Joe” co-host compared that demeanor to the Democrats on the stage in the last debate and concluded that the opposition party was not up to taking it to a “higher level.”

“The thing that last night’s rally showed — and it was a great — I think it was a great comparison with what the Democrats were doing. It showed that here was a guy that strutted across the stage,” he said. “He was — he was being a demagogue. I would say Mussolini-like. Just picking at racial resentments constantly. And then you go like the previous two nights, and you have Democrats going, ‘Well you know, I have looked at subsection three of page 487 of your Medicare for all plan, and I fear that after the third deductible, that the coverage may not be as satisfactory if you are in Medicare zone three instead of Medicare zone one. Of course, of course, you have to weigh that with a Brookings Instit…’ I could go on all night because the Democrats went on all night.”

“There’s not a Democrat on the stage that understands how to take it to a higher level, that understands the bigger things,” Scarborough added.

Fake News: Chelsea Handler Claims Elijah Cummings’ House Was Robbed After Trump Feud

Far-left former Netflix talk show host Chelsea Handler pumped out fake news Friday morning, telling her 8 million Twitter followers that someone broke into Rep. Elijah Cummings’ (D-MD) Baltimore home following his feud with President Trump.

On Thursday evening, news broke of a break-in at the lawmaker’s home — a break-in that actually occurred last weekend. Chelsea Handler swooped in and attempted to use the incident to slam the president and his allies.

“Elijah Cummings’ house was broken into after Trump publicly attacked him on twitter and Republicans say nothing,” she tweeted Friday. “Our president bullies someone and then has an intruder in his home. The president of the United States. The lows keep coming.”

Handler’s assertion, however, is false. Cummings’ home was broken into Saturday, July 27 at approximately 3:40 a.m. ET – hours before Trump tweeted anything about the lawmaker or his district. Cummings confirmed the incident’s timeline in a statement released Friday:

An individual attempted to gain entry into my residence at approximately 3:40 AM on Saturday, July 27. I was notified of the intrusion by my security system, and I scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house. I thank the Baltimore Police Department for their response and ask that all further inquiries be directed to them.

While Trump criticized Cummings that Saturday, it was not until 7:14 a.m. ET– over three hours after the initial incident – making it impossible for Trump’s tweets to have inspired the criminal’s actions.

The president responded to the news of Cummings’ break-in in a tweet Friday.

“Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!” he wrote.

Black Youth Unemployment Falls to Lowest Level in History

8/2/2019

The American economy is providing jobs for younger African-Americans at an unprecedented level.

In July, the unemployment rate for African-Americans between the ages of 16 and 19 fell to a seasonally adjusted 17.7 percent, the lowest rate since the government began tallying the figures in the early 1970s

A total of 762,000 young African-Americans had jobs in July, according to the most recent data from the Department of Labor. That’s the highest number on record. The labor force participation rate climbed to 38.8, up from 36.3 a year ago.

Despite rising workforce participation, African-American youth unemployment is down dramatically from a year ago, when it was a seasonally adjusted 19.4 percent. The workforce over that time has grown by 50,000.

White youth unemployment actually increased year-over-year, from 11.0 percent to 11.4 percent. As a result, the racial gap in unemployment has contracted to 6.3 percentage points, also a record low.

Bill De Blasio Forces Fliers to Wait So He Can Make TV Appearance

8/2/2019

Democrat presidential hopeful and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio forced fellow airplane passengers to wait for 10 minutes so he and his security detail could exit first.

According to the New York Post, de Blasio’s request to deplane first “wasn’t a pressing matter related to City Hall or the potential firing of Eric Garner chokehold cop Daniel Pantaleo that necessitated the inconvenience to his fellow passengers — de Blasio had to rush off to tape an appearance on ABC’s ‘The View.'”

Passengers aboard the Delta Flight 788 that arrived at LaGuardia Airport were not pleased with de Blasio’s disruption, as many of them voiced their concerns with the Post afterward.

“This is just a continuation of the rudeness and the bluntness of his performance last night,” one New Yorker told the New York Post.

“It’s par for the course, par for the course,” said another individual.

The Post also noted one of their reporters on the aircraft asked de Blasio’s campaign spokeswoman if the mayor had time to answer a question regarding “900 classrooms testing positive for lead.” She told the reporter no.

After de Blasio exited, the stewardess announced over the loudspeaker the remaining travelers were free to exit the aircraft, which was met by multiple sarcastic “Thank you!” exclamations from the passengers.

The Post also stated that de Blasio was “five minutes late” when he boarded the plane, which departed from Detroit on Thursday.

After the disruption, De Blasio Campaign spokeswoman Jaclyn Rothenberg said, “The mayor was at the departure gate on time and didn’t make the plane late, he just prefers to board last.”

Trump Considering Blockade of Venezuela

8/2/2019

President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday he is considering a quarantine or blockade of Venezuela.

When asked by a reporter whether he was considering a blockade or quarantine given that Iran and China are actively supporting the socialist Maduro regime, Trump replied, “Yes I am.” He did not provide further details.

A blockade of Venezuela would represent the most significant effort by the Trump administration to remove the Maduro regime from power, having already imposed a range of economic sanctions against senior officials and state-run companies.

As well as the imposition of sanctions, the U.S. has also thrown its full support behind President Juan Guaidó, providing him with both financial and diplomatic support. Guaidó became the nation’s president in January following the expiration of Maduro’s last term. Maduro insists that the May 2018 elections he organized – widely recognized as fraudulent by the international community – entitle him to continue to rule. Maduro controls the nation’s military and presidential palace, limiting Guaidó’s ability to serve.

Last month, Guaidó resorted to entering negotiations with the regime, although two separate rounds of talks ended without any form of agreement.

Trump has long affirmed his commitment to the issue of Venezuela, repeatedly warning that “all options are on the table” with regards to ending the country’s political, economic, and humanitarian crisis, including the use of military force.

The State Department has also funded multiple humanitarian aid convoys for the thousands of Venezuelan refugees fleeing to neighboring countries on a daily basis.

In an address to Latin American business executives in Brasilia on Thursday, U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross outlined plans to rebuild Venezuelan society in a post-Maduro era.

“Venezuela will continue to deteriorate until the internationally-recognized government of Juan Guaido implements needed economic, political and social reforms,” Ross said. “[Their] infrastructure needs are far more severe than other Latin American countries because of years of neglect. And because their economy has shrunk between 5 and 25 percent a year under Maduro, the amounts seem disproportionately large.”

“Commitments, therefore, must be underpinned by confidence in rapid economic growth,” he continued. “That confidence will be based upon economic reforms, rule of law, transparency and integrity in government and business, global cooperation, and regional integration. Growth also will require massive initial aid to jump-start the engine.”

Mexican Feds Capture 13 Cartel Hitmen in Border State

8/2/2019

Elements of the Mexican Federal Ministerial Police arrested 13 suspected hitmen during a raid at a cartel safe house in Cajeme, Sonora, Tuesday. Those apprehended are believed responsible for at least four recent homicides, including a 3-year-old boy and his father.

The raid was the benefit of intelligence gathered after the arrest of two cartel operatives identified as Edgardo Sánchez “El Tatis” and Brayan Valentín “El Guerrero” after the June 27 killing of a 3-year-old child and his father, according to information released by the state attorney general’s office and local media.

According to Breitbart News law enforcement sources, the 13 hitmen are suspected members of “Los Trini,” formerly led by Trinidad “Chapo Trini” Olivas Valenzuela, the former regional plaza boss for the Beltran Leyva Cartel. He was murdered in July 2017 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, while eating at a hotdog stand. Los Trini are currently aligned with Fausto Isidro Meza Flores aka “El Chapo Isidro” and the Beltran Leyva, who are involved in a bitter turf dispute with the Sinaloa Cartel for control of smuggling territories leading into Arizona.

Investigative personnel seized a vehicle, one motorcycle, numerous cell phones, at least one firearm, and various documents. The 13 arrested individuals and evidence were turned over to investigative personnel from the state attorney general’s office.

Sonora saw a 44 percent increase in homicides during the first six months of 2019 in comparison to the same time period of 2018. Breitbart News previously reported that the state suffered 14 killed police officers in 2019. Mexico City deployed 1,800 National Guard personnel in July to help fight escalating violence attributed to cartel turf wars

Trump withdraws Ratcliffe as Intelligence pick

By Morgan Chalfant - 08/02/19 02:14 PM EDT

President Trump said Friday that he will not nominate Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) to be director of national intelligence, just days after announcing plans to tap the GOP congressman to replace Daniel Coats.

Trump blamed the media for treating Ratcliffe "very unfairly" in a string of tweets sent Friday afternoon, saying Ratcliffe had decided to stay in Congress and withdraw his name from consideration. Trump said he plans to announce an official nominee "shortly."

"Our great Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe is being treated very unfairly by the LameStream Media. Rather than going through months of slander and libel, I explained to John how miserable it would be for him and his family to deal with these people,” Trump tweeted Friday afternoon.

“John has therefore decided to stay in Congress where he has done such an outstanding job representing the people of Texas, and our Country. I will be announcing my nomination for DNI shortly.”

Trump's abrupt announcement came after days of scrutiny of Ratcliffe's background and past statements critical of former special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. Several Republican senators had declined to weigh in on his nomination, as he withstood a barrage of criticism from Democrats for being too political for the role.

Trump had not officially nominated Ratcliffe.

Several news reports have described Ratcliffe as overstating parts of his biography relating to his work on terrorism cases as a federal prosecutor in Texas since Trump announced his intention to nominate him on Sunday.

Sen. Mark Warner (Va.), the Senate Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, said Thursday it would be “clearly disqualifying” if it were true that Ratcliffe padded his resume.

Ratcliffe said in a statement Friday that he asked Trump to nominate someone else for the position, explaining he didn’t want the debate around his nomination “however untrue, to become a purely political and partisan issue.”

"While I am and will remain very grateful to the President for his intention to nominate me as Director of National Intelligence, I am withdrawing from consideration,” Ratcliffe said.

“I was humbled and honored that the President put his trust in me to lead our nation's intelligence operations and remain convinced that when confirmed, I would have done so with the objectivity, fairness and integrity that our intelligence agencies need and deserve,” he continued. “However, I do not wish for a national security and intelligence debate surrounding my confirmation, however untrue, to become a purely political and partisan issue.”

Trump did not answer questions about Ratcliffe's withdrawal on Friday afternoon during a White House event on trade. White House officials were notified in recent days that his nomination likely would face an uphill climb in the Senate, according to an administration official.

Federal judge rules against Trump asylum policy

By Jacqueline Thomsen - 08/02/19 02:23 PM EDT

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled Friday against a Trump administration policy that would only allow migrants who enter the U.S. through legal ports of entry to claim asylum, the latest blow against the administration's agenda.

U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss, an Obama appointee, threw out the policy, finding it to be “inconsistent with" the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The policy has been already blocked by a federal judge in San Francisco and is now being appealed before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Moss found in Friday’s ruling that the policy is in conflict with the law, which states that “any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival...), irrespective of such alien’s status, may apply for asylum.”

The administration had argued that the policy doesn’t block the migrants who enter the U.S. outside of a legal port of entry, but rather that they were ineligible for asylum in the first place.

But Moss disagreed, finding that there is little difference between the two interpretations, particularly for the immigrants impacted by it.

“As a matter of common usage, no one would draw a meaningful distinction, for example, between a rule providing that children may not apply for a driver’s license and one providing that children are not eligible to receive a driver’s license,” he wrote. “Both locutions mean the same thing.”

President Trump enacted the measure through a presidential proclamation last year.

Friday's ruling also comes as the Trump administration steps up its efforts to tighten asylum laws, but those actions have faced several blows in court so far.

Judge Jon Tigar in San Francisco had blocked the policy in question last year, and the Supreme Court also ruled against allowing it to go into effect while that ruling was appealed.

And last week, Tigar also issued a temporary restraining order against a new Trump policy that would block migrants who pass through a third country before arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border from being able to claim asylum

Attorney General William Barr earlier this week issued an order that states migrants can't use the persecution of immediate family members to claim asylum.

Trump signs two-year budget deal

President Trump on Friday signed a sweeping budget deal that increases federal spending and lifts the nation’s borrowing limit, the White House said.

The new law suspends the debt ceiling through July 2021, removing the threat of a default during the 2020 elections, and raises domestic and military spending by more than $320 billion compared to existing law over the next two fiscal years.

Trump signed the measure without fanfare at the White House one day after the Senate voted 67-28 to send it to his desk. The House last week passed the budget package by a vote of 284-149 before starting its August recess.

Fiscal hawks and some conservative Republicans decried the measure, which is projected to add nearly $2 trillion to the projected national debt over the next decade.

Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, said Thursday the agreement marks “a shameful period of fiscal recklessness in Washington that is unprecedented in the context of our current fiscal state.”

“Going forward, neither side can claim a mantle of responsible governing, and few have any moral ground to stand on–this is a bipartisan failure,” she said in a statement.

But Trump threw his support behind it in large part because it cleared the decks of a messy budget fight as the 2020 campaign kicks into high gear and because it boosts military spending. Under the deal, defense spending will increase roughly 3 percent over current levels and nondefense spending will go up around 4 percent.

“Budget Deal is phenomenal for our Great Military, our Vets, and Jobs, Jobs, Jobs! Two year deal gets us past the Election,” the president tweeted Thursday before the Senate vote. “Go for it Republicans, there is always plenty of time to CUT!”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin took the lead in negotiating the agreement.

“Today we saw an example of how government should work. Democrats and Republicans put partisanship aside and came together in favor of securing a stronger future for American families and upholding the full faith and credit of the United States,” House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) said in a statement.

While the deal averts a debt default, it does not remove the possibility of a government shutdown at the conclusion of the fiscal year ending Sept. 30. Instead, it sets spending levels for House and Senate appropriators

.Congress still must pass roughly a dozen spending bills, or a package containing the various bills, which Trump also must sign to keep the government open.

Hamza bin Laden's reported death is not the death of al Qaeda

By Jason M. Blazakis, opinion contributor — 08/02/19 01:30 PM EDT

The details surrounding Hamza bin Laden’s reported death, not unlike his life, remain a mystery. On July 31, NBC News, citing multiple unnamed U.S. officials, first reported Hamza bin Laden’s (HBL) death. The following day, there were indications that he was killed in an airstrike.

Official U.S. statements about HBL’s death have been nonexistent and President Trump has refused to comment. Additionally, press reports do not indicate where or when Hamza bin Laden may have died. The lack of precision regarding his fate may mean a few things. The unnamed officials who leaked the story may have jumped the gun. After all, high-profile terrorists such as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Mokhtar Belmokhtar have been prematurely reported as dead and later reappeared.

Perhaps the United States was not involved in HBL’s death, though that’s unlikely given its unparalleled counterterrorism and intelligence capabilities. Maybe the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) needed more time to exfiltrate human sources who provided vital information that led to his demise. The most likely scenario for the delay is that the IC is still reviewing and declassifying the disjointed dots of intelligence that painted the picture of HBL’s death. Until that process is complete, the public is left to speculate about his last days and the future of al Qaeda.

For example, some likely are wondering why the State Department issued a $1 million reward for justice on HBL when he may have been dead already. That decision may have been an intentional effort to generate more terrorist chatter over the airwaves about HBL to gain more granularity on his sentient status.

However and whenever he died, HBL was an ascendant figure within al Qaeda. In January 2017, the State Department designated Hamza bin Laden as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) pursuant to Executive Order 13224. The State Department’s Office of Counterterrorism Finance and Designations, where I worked, led the all-source investigation that culminated in HBL’s sanction. The announcement documenting then-Secretary of State John Kerry’s decision details multiple HBL audio messages that called on supporters to attack U.S. domestic and overseas interests.

The dossier of evidence that culminated in HBL’s terrorist designation made me think that HBL had the potential to ascend to the level of Anwar al-Aulaqi, the infamous al Qaeda external operations chief and propagandist in the Arabian Peninsula who was killed in American drone strike in 2011. Much like Al-Aulaqi, HBL was becoming a charismatic communicator, but he didn’t have Aulaqi’s skeletons in the closet (he famously consorted with prostitutes). HBL also had the benefit of name recognition, as Osama bin Laden’s son, and he was married to the daughter of a senior al Qaeda member.

Al Qaeda reportedly was grooming HBL to take the leadership mantle. If he had done so, it would have made for an inflection point for the group that has been on its heels since 9/11. The last major al Qaeda attack against a western target occurred in London on July 7, 2005, resulting in 52 deaths and many more injuries.

In 2011, Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan. Ayman al-Zawahiri, best known for survival instincts, is al Qaeda’s current leader and an ineffective steward of the group. Al-Zawahiri’s bland, old-school jihadi communication style doesn’t resonate with the newer generation of jihadists. During al-Zawahiri’s tenure, al Qaeda been eclipsed by ISIS, which crafted a more appealing social media-driven narrative that has drawn more recruits and a younger cadre of members who are better versed in 21st century jihad.

Top social media companies consider deepfake policy changes after Pelosi video

By Emily Birnbaum - 08/02/19 04:29 PM EDT

Facebook, Google and Twitter are all considering writing policies specifically about deepfake videos following lawmakers' concerns over a doctored video of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the companies told a top Democratic lawmaker in letters this month.

The trio of top social media companies told Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, they are all looking into whether it's necessary to tweak their policies to account for the rise of deepfakes, videos or images that have manipulated to make it appear as though people are doing or saying things that they never have.

The issue clamored into the spotlight earlier this year when Facebook declined to take down a user-posted video of Pelosi that was slowed down and edited to make it appear as though she was sick or drunk. The hundreds of comments on the video indicated viewers thought the video was real. Shortly after, President Trump shared a video that was spliced to make it seem like Pelosi was stumbling over her words.

The videos of Pelosi were not deepfakes, but they reignited a larger conversation about how the social media companies deal with manipulated footage, which is expected to play a growing role in the upcoming presidential election.

Schiff pressed the companies over the issue in letters on June 15. The responses from the companies are dated July 31.

Twitter's director of public policy, Carlos Monje, wrote the company is "carefully investigating how to handle manipulated media and agree that manipulated media can pose serious threats in certain circumstances."

"The solutions we develop will need to protect the rights of people to engage in parody, satire and political commentary," he added.

He said Twitter has identified two edited videos of Pelosi circulating on its platform.

"The first video, which appears to have been slowed down, received a total of nine Retweets, 17 Likes, and 797 video views as of July 31, 2019," Monje wrote, likely referencing the video that drew thousands of views on Facebook.

"A second video, shared by the account of President Trump, appears to be an edited collection of clips of Speaker Pelosi," he added. "This Tweet received approximately 31,107 Retweets, nearly 96,000 Likes, and approximately 6.37 million video views as of July 31, 2019."

The letters signal the platforms are still weighing how to deal with the issue of videos that have been selectively edited and promoted for political purposes.

"We are always looking into new potential threats related to personal or societal harm arising from new technologies, including this one, and may further update our policies in the future if we identify gaps that are not currently covered by our existing rules or systems," Karan Bhatia, Google's vice president of government affairs and public policy, wrote. He noted that Google-owned YouTube has been working to combat manipulated media since its "early days," pointing to the platform's "deceptive practices" policies as an effort to address the issue.

Pelosi defends Trump oversight as Democrats' calls for impeachment grow

By Mike Lillis - 08/02/19 04:51 PM EDT

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Friday defended her methodical approach to investigating President Trump as calls for his impeachment inched up to the edge of majority support among the Democratic caucus.

Pelosi has come under fire from liberals on and off Capitol Hill for what they consider a too-cautious strategy for confronting allegations of presidential misconduct, particularly in the wake of former special counsel Robert Mueller's testimony before Congress last week on his investigation into Russian election meddling and Trump's efforts to block the probe.

But Pelosi, in a long and comprehensive statement, argued that Democratic leaders are fighting tooth-and-nail to hold the president to account, listing a long series of committee investigations, court challenges and legislative remedies she's pushing in lieu of outright impeachment.

“To protect our democracy and our Constitution, Democrats in the Congress continue to legislate, investigate and litigate," she said.

The statement arrives as the number of House Democrats backing impeachment in some form grew to 117, according to a count being kept by The Hill.

The list includes those who would vote tomorrow to oust Trump with articles of impeachment; those who favor an impeachment inquiry that might lend Democrats new teeth in conducting their investigations; and those who would vote on impeachment given the chance, but also support the Judiciary Committee's strategy of using the potential for impeachment as a basis for securing information withheld by the administration, without launching a formal impeachment process.

Pelosi on Friday noted the more damning revelations of Mueller's testimony, saying the former FBI director "confirmed that the president’s campaign welcomed Russian interference in the election, and laid out ten instances of the President’s obstruction of justice."

Trump's subsequent efforts to withhold information from the Democratic investigations "is further evidence of obstruction of justice," she added.

Yet Pelosi has long sought to defuse the impeachment effort, noting the lack of support from either the public or Republicans on Capitol Hill. And she's also fighting to retain the House in the 2020 elections — and effort that hinges largely on victories for moderate Democrats in swing districts where even talk of impeachment could prove a liability.

Still, the growing clamor for impeachment within the caucus has put pressure on Pelosi and party leaders to put on their toughest face in confronting the mercurial president. Last week, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) outlined a plan that alludes to impeachment in seeking disputed documents and witness testimony related to Mueller's investigation — a dynamic highlighted by Pelosi in Friday's statement.

NYT, WaPo Op-Eds Blast Dem Candidates After Trump Once Again Makes Them Embrace Race-Baiting Extremist

Posted on August 2, 2019

A couple weeks ago, President Trump took aim at “The Squad” — Reps. Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.

The Democratic Party quickly unified, with members coming to their defense and lauding them for their work.

Then Trump ripped Baltimore as a rat infested hellhole, also hitting Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, the city congressman. That brought more Democrats out to defend the city and claim Trump is racist.

Those racism charges immediately brought out race-baiter Al Sharpton, who, true to form, Trump promptly blasted. And once again, top Democrats were forced to rally around the target of Trump’s ire. […]

Attorneys File Suit for 8 Convington HS Students Against 12 Top Liberal Elite Figures Including Liz Warren and Loudmouth Ana Navarro

Attorneys Robert Barnes and Kevin Murphy filed suit for eight Covington High School students against twelve top liberal elite figures including: Liz Warren, CNN’s Ana Navarro and New York Times crank Maggie Haberman.

Law and Crime reported:

Lawyers for eight Covington Catholic students (John Does 1-8) filed a defamation lawsuit on Thursday in Kentucky’s Kenton County Circuit Court against 12 individuals — lawmakers, journalists/media figures and social media personalities included.

Attorneys Robert Barnes (disclosure: Barnes has written columns for Law&Crime) and Kevin Murphy began the suit by going back to January 18, 2019, when, they say, “A field trip to our nation’s capital for a group of minors from Covington, Kentucky turned into a social media nightmare that changed their futures forever.”

This was when MAGA hat wearing high school students (Nick Sandmann, in particular) came face to face with a 65-year-old Native American man identified as Nathan Phillips. The lawsuit said that the defendants jumped to conclusions, painting the plaintiffs as racists, lying about an event they didn’t witness firsthand, and libeling the minors. (Note that these minors are bringing this lawsuit through their parents.)

From the lawsuit:

Several of our Senators, most-famous celebrities, and widely read journalists, collectively used their large social media platforms, perceived higher credibility and public followings to lie and libel minors they never met, based on an event they never witnessed,” the lawsuit said. “These defendants called for the kids to be named and shamed, doxxed and expelled, and invited public retaliation against these minors from a small town in Kentucky. The defendants circulated false statements about them to millions of people around the world. The video of the entire event, known to the defendants, exposed all of their factual claims against the kids as lies. The defendants were each individually offered the opportunity to correct, delete, and/or apologize for their false statements, but each refused, continuing to circulate the false statements about these children to this very day on their social media platforms they personally control.”

EC house was broken into. IG report on Comey will be released very soon, this is not the full IG report this is a piece of it focused on Comey. DOJ getting ready to give JW Ohr data. MSM is now trying to get ahead of the Epstein case, trying to explain the building on the island. JR withdrew his nomination, Trump is now ready to pick another. The Declass, OIG report and other investigations are right around the corner, as we approach that time frame the [DS] and MSM will be putting out stories to get ahead of what is coming, the [DS] will push the idea of an event and we will see FN being pushed out to the public, this will all fail, the truth will not be censored.

17 Million Voters Have Had Registration Canceled Since 2016 Election:

Report

Places that were subject to federal supervision in the past still appear to be removing voters more aggressively today.

8/2/2019

At least 17 million people were removed from the voter rolls between the 2016 election and the 2018 midterms, according to a new report published by the Brennan Center for Justice this week.

The study updated an in-depth 2018 analysis on voter purges and offered further evidence that certain places continued to more aggressively remove people from the voting rolls following the Supreme Court’s decision in Shelby County v. Holder in 2013

In that decision, the Supreme Court essentially gutted Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which required jurisdictions with a history of racial discrimination at the polls to clear their voting changes with the federal government before those changes went into effect.

The number of voters removed from the rolls between 2016 and 2018 was similar to the number removed between 2014 and 2016, researchers found. But between 2006 and 2008, prior to the Supreme Court decision, roughly 4 million fewer voters were removed from the rolls.

The Brennan Center researchers also found that jurisdictions previously subject to Section 5 removed voters from the rolls at a median rate of 40% higher than other jurisdictions. If those places had removed voters at the same rate as other places, about 1.1 million fewer people would have been removed from the rolls.

The Supreme Court argued in 2013 that racial discrimination in those areas had abated and that the Voting Rights Act formula was therefore outdated, but the higher removal rate suggests past discrimination still has a “stickiness” in those jurisdictions, said Myrna Pérez, director of voting rights and elections programs at the Brennan Center.

“There is something to their shared history that made sense for them to be covered back then that is still durable, that still exists,” Pérez said in an interview. “It’s not random, it’s not haphazard. It’s not happenstance. There’s something to their history and their institutional and structural barriers that [they] still have that today.”

It’s not random, it’s not haphazard. It’s not happenstance. There’s something to their history and their institutional and structural barriers that [they] still have that today.

Voters may be removed from the rolls for a number of legitimate reasons, such as death or new addresses. The federal data the Brennan Center used for its analysis didn’t make it clear how many removals were accurate.

“We’re not in a position to know how many of them were legitimate, how many of them we would contest,” Pérez said. The Brennan Center researchers also noted that not every jurisdiction had reported its voter removals, but said they were working off the best available data.

Federal law sets out specific procedures that states have to follow if they want to remove someone for the rolls. The law explicitly prohibits a state from removing someone from the rolls “solely” because they don’t vote. But last year, the U.S. Supreme Court approved an Ohio process in which people were removed if they didn’t vote for two years, didn’t respond to a voter confirmation notice and then subsequently didn’t vote again for another four years. The plaintiffs in the suit argued that Ohio was essentially removing voters because they weren’t voting.
