I understand it to mean that there are vulnerabilities not publicly known. For one thing, quantum computing is probably further along than the public is aware of, making brute force attacks simple and time efficient. MOST communications aren't worth the effort, but SOME are. I would imagine that the DOD comms are in that second group. Breaking Q comms would be the crowbar in the crack. The public side of Q is interesting, but hardly critical -- even the more cryptic comms probably have alternate paths to target. But if Q is who he says he is, being able to impersonate Q to others in DOD would be critical almost immediately. Their first response would identify them ... and from there it's "loose cannon on deck" time.
PGP used to be in the "never crack it in time" sort of code. Now, for those with sufficiently deep pockets, it's basically "in the clear" in realtime.
I suppose we could always go back to "One Time Pads".

For a while, we could have overwhelmed the inquisitors with sheer volume. When decryption was computationally expensive, knowing which message to decrypt could be the hardest problem of all. But the uptake was never sufficient for that - there weren't enough encrypted messages to mask the important ones with a flood of yoga pants encryption fluff and now it's a solved problem when computational speeds allow you to simply decrypt EVERY message and then pass them off to other computers for content analysis which gets passed on down the chain until eventually resulting in an action order and a quiet pickup as you leave your house for work one morning.
Look at the advances in facial and voice recognition. Those take a ginormous amount if clock cycles ... and yet both China and the UK have the cameras on every corner in every larger city.
I see a very dystopian future ahead of us if we cannot ride the tiger that is technology. And, so far, we can't.

It's sometimes hard to know who your friends are. There was a time when I would have simply tented my hands reflexively as I was thinking through something. He may be doing the same. Or, he may be signaling a loyalty.

My second wife had a non-descript, part terrier, part social climber, dog who famously liked to find dead fish when at the beach and to roll around in them. Apparently it was a way of remembering a day at the beach. She and her kids thought this was funny. As one of the mutts favorite humans, I did not but, wanting to remain on good terms with them (an ultimately futile endeavor), I refrained from comment even more than I refrained from contact.
I was thinking about the shills over on QR and wondering if they might be related to that dog somehow. Or, if not the dog, perhaps the 12 year old step daughter whose life's ambition was to be a table dancer. I understand that she graduated high school and immediately pursued her dream occupation. By that time I was years out of the picture and was not surprised to later learn that she was "in rehab".
I don't know "why shills". I think many of them are lightly paid information workers who simply do not comprehend the damage they are doing while others see it as some juvenile rite of passage. Passage to what? I really have no clue.
