Here's the case that reportedly got Gottlieb his security clearance - defending Adis Medunjanin who was indicted in 2010 for plotting to bomb the NYC subway (convicted in 2012 of terrorism charges & sentenced to life in prison).

What's interesting about this is --

-- Medunjanin contacted Gottlieb in 2009 and the two spoke by phone 42 times BEFORE he was arrested.

-- Pre-trial, someone in the DOJ gave Gottlieb access to those phone records as they were being monitored by the NSA due to a FISA warrant.

-- Those phone calls were never used at trial and Gottlieb claims that he doesn't know why he was given access to them.

-- Gottlieb gave an interview in 2014 post-Snowden for the article that argues that the NSA was violating attorney-client privileges.

Who in the US government gave Gottlieb access and why was he given access to those records?

Why did Medunjanin contact an attorney 6 months prior to be arrested and how did he find Gottlieb?
