I believe Hate is a useless, self defeating and toxic emotion, and should not even be considered in a dichotomy with Love.
To harbor hate for another is like trying to poison them by drinking the hemlock yourself. I don't believe hate is an essential human characteristic.
The totality of creation, Dark and Light, is a product of Love. To transcend the confusion and suffering of the world, we need to be able to take in the Dark and Light, and synthesize it into Harmony. In music, Tension is required to achieve Harmony. A string wound too tight will snap, a string wound too loose will not produce sound.
Human suffering has spurned the creation of some of the most moving, and beautiful and relatable works of art in Music, Literature, etc. throughout the ages. Love allows us to experience Darkness and Suffering, but turn that into Harmony with the rest of life that brings us Light and Joy.
Evil is that which seeks to burn and defile the totality of this Creation of Love. Evil seeks Dissonance, to fracture the Harmony created by the tension of Love. Hate creates dissonance and ugliness in oneself and the world. The potential for Darkness and Light in each of us is the tension that we must navigate, will you produce works of Love, or works of Evol?
