Orange County Pauses Vaccine Digital Verification System
The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted to pause the creation of digital vaccination records after more than 700 people gathered at a May 11 board meeting to oppose the move.
A motion to halt any plans of establishing digital vaccination records was approved during a 4-1 vote, with recently-elected Supervisor Katrina Foley being the sole dissenter.
The motion was created by Chairman Andrew Do after more than 740 people spoke during the meeting to oppose the creation of an optional vaccine verification system. Speakers were limited to 30 seconds each due to the high volume of attendees.

Canada Warns Michigan Oil Line Shutdown Could Undermine US Ties
CALGARY, Alberta—A day before Michigan’s deadline to close down a key crude oil pipeline, Canada on Tuesday issued its strongest remarks so far about the move, warning that it could undermine relations with the United States, its closest ally and trading partner.
Canadian company Enbridge Inc is preparing for a legal battle with Michigan and courting protests from environmental groups, betting it can ignore the state’s Wednesday deadline to shut down Line 5, which runs under the Straits of Mackinac.
The Canadian government, intervening in the case to back Enbridge, said in a U.S. federal court filing that Michigan had no right to act unilaterally since a 1977 Canada-U.S. pipeline treaty guarantees the free flow of oil between the two nations.
“This case raises concerns regarding the efficacy of the historic framework upon which the U.S.-Canada relationship has been successfully managed for generations,” Ottawa said.
Michigan’s move “threatens to undermine important aspects of that cooperative international relationship”, it added.
The brief said Canada would suffer “massive and potentially permanent disruption” from a shutdown. Line 5 brings 540,000 barrels-per-day of oil from western Canada to Ontario, Quebec, Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
Canada has been lobbying Washington officials to keep the pipeline open in what is likely to be an election year in Canada. The White House has so far kept quiet.
The Real Threat Of Civil War In France

For the second time in a couple of weeks, the French political world has been blasted by rumblings of mutiny amongst its armed forces. The Anglo-Saxon world likes to laugh at French military prowess, suggesting that since Napoleon there has been little to be proud of. But that would be foolish. Very few armies in the world have the capacity to project force, and the French can do that. The Foreign Legion is not a bunch of Boy Scouts. Large swathes of North Africa are still controlled by the French, despite colonialization. Their army is a fighting army without doubt.
About a month ago, on the pages of a website devoted to French military veterans, an open letter to President Macron was published. Signed by 20 retired Generals, including the former head of the Foreign Legion, and 1000 other officers, it professed an oncoming civil war in France.
This letter was picked up by a right of centre magazine, Valeurs Actuelles, and has caused a massive national debate. Regional elections are only a few months away, and the Right-wing opposition to Macron, and currently second favourite to win the Presidency, Marine Le Pen came out in support of the letter. The letter itself was florid at times, referencing the flag, honour, fatherland:
“Discrimination which, through a certain anti-racism, is displayed with a single aim: to create on our soil a malaise, even hatred between the communities. Today some speak of racialism, indigenism and decolonial theories, but, through these terms, it is the racial war that these hateful and fanatic partisans want. They despise our country, its traditions, its culture, and want to see it dissolve by taking away its past and its history. Thus they attack, through statues, ancient military and civilian glories by analysing words that are centuries old.
“Discrimination which, with Islamism and the suburban hordes, leads to the detachment of multiple plots of the nation to transform them into territories subject to dogmas contrary to our constitution. But each Frenchman, whatever his belief or his non-belief, is everywhere at home in France; there cannot and must not exist any city, any district where the laws of the Republic do not apply.
“Discrimination because hatred takes precedence over brotherhood during demonstrations where the power uses the police as a proxy and scapegoat in the face of French people in yellow vests expressing their despair. This while infiltrated and hooded individuals ransack businesses and threaten these same police forces. Yet the latter only apply the directives, sometimes contradictory, given by you, the rulers.”
It finished in bloodcurdling fashion. “there is no longer time to procrastinate otherwise, tomorrow the civil war will put an end to this growing chaos, and the deaths, for which you will bear the responsibility, will number in the thousands”.

When I was in office we were known as the Peace Presidency, because Israel’s adversaries knew that the United States stood strongly with Israel and there would be swift retribution if Israel was attacked. Under Biden, the world is getting more violent and more unstable because Biden’s weakness and lack of support for Israel is leading to new attacks on our allies. America must always stand with Israel and make clear that the Palestinians must end the violence, terror, and rocket attacks, and make clear that the U.S. will always strongly support Israel’s right to defend itself. How “Nudging” is damaging our society and why behavioural scientists must be held to account

I should know: I was formerly the Lead Psychologist at Cambridge Analytica. Yet the application of behavioural science is getting so concerning that even I have a problem with it.
For the uninitiated, nudging is the idea of using psychological principles to give people a gentle bump in the right direction, rather than forcing compliance.
For example, we tend to stick with the status quo, since it is easy, and this is why the government has had so much success with auto-enrollment for pensions and organ donation.
The primary group behind all this is the Behavioural Insights Team. In essence, a bunch of Oxbridge types got together and formed a Ministry of Choice to decide the deciding for us plebs; these self-styled behavioural architects took it upon themselves to liberate us from the effort and risk inherent in making our own choices. With our decision-making outsourced, we can now all relax into our Netflix, Deliveroo and PornHub, and leave it to the state to do all that hard thinking stuff for us (phew).
The team is informally known as the Nudge Unit – and in fact, calling this practice “nudging” is itself a nudge. Framing is where something is made more attractive by focusing on the positives rather than the negatives – for example, sales are higher for beef labelled “80% lean” than “20% fat” – and people are more open to being nudged than they are to being subconsciously manipulated.
Similarly, while the team views its work as “libertarian paternalism” – as if it were kindly old Santa Claus himself, chiding us to be good boys and girls with lumps of coal – the reality seems to be the inverse: authoritarian maternalism, which has hitherto been known as the Nanny State and recently reinvented as a sort of Hugbox Bolshevism. is the ideology that tells you to be #bekind and #staysafe – or elseIt is the ideology that will put an entire nation under crippling house arrest for its own good; it has turned the world into a safe space, by threat of force.
