Coast Guard has stopped all river traffic - over 400 barges are already backed up

So much grain flows through here..!

โ€œMore than 400 barges were delayed on the lower Mississippi River on Wednesday after a bridge crack prompted the U.S. Coast Guard to halt vessel traffic on a portion of the waterway crucial for shipping crops to export markets.

The disruption hit as strong demand for U.S. corn and soybeans has tightened inventories and pushed crop prices to their highest in more than eight years. Also, U.S. President Joe Biden is seeking to have Congress approve a $2.25 trillion infrastructure bill.

The Coast Guard stopped all traffic on the Mississippi River near Memphis - between mile markers 736 and 737 - after a crack was discovered in the Hernando de Soto Bridge that spans the river, according to a statement.

There were 12 vessels with 157 barges in the queue to pass northbound and 16 vessels with 254 barges in the queue to go southbound, Lieutenant Mark Pipkin, a Coast Guard spokesman, told Reuters. The barges are carrying a mix of materials including crude oil and dry cargo like corn or rocks, he said.

Pipkin said it is not known when the river will reopen.

gotta start some place

notice btw how the debate about fetal tissue cell lines in new fake vaccines for covid hasn't even gotten minimal coverage - people being pressured to "just take em", sweep that used-to-matter issue under the rug.

Oh look - here's the announcement

CDC director:

"We have all longed for this moment"

CDC DIRECTOR: "If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic."

"We have all longed for this moment..."

"That moment has come for those who are fully vaccinated."

nothing against stem cell research when done ethically, but they don't want an ethical approach - they want an approach that is anti-life, anti-God, anti-love.

Want to make people do things against their moral compass, and want to do it on purpose, to degrade, demoralize and depress. That announcement by the CDC director is absolutely disgusting. Much like the military guy trying to force his soldiers into taking the vax. carrot and stick. killing people and they don't care.

still got one God child in hs, wanna tell him go for a ged rather than get vaxxed

the other one's going to college next yr, that's kind of a mess atm

These children just want to have a normal life, hard time for kids that age to accept that it can't be the same it was 2 years ago (although ed was really messed up then, they din realize).

Better for the sys to fall apart than continue as it was, but for them, they just want usual teen stuff - friends, fun, no big hassles.

The U.S. Coast Guard, in a news release on May 12, said it had issued a waterway restriction to all vessel traffic on the Lower Mississippi River Tuesday near the I-40 bridge in Memphis, Tennessee. The restriction was put into place due to a crack discovered by the Arkansas Department of Transportation on the I-40 bridge near the center span. The waterway restriction closes the river to all vessel traffic between mile 736 and mile 737 on the LMR.

โ€œIt remains to be seen when barge traffic will be allowed to resume, but any suspension of traffic even temporarily on the Mississippi River is most unwelcome to U.S. agriculture.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in the week ending May 1, 438 barges moved down river destined for Gulf export facilities. Most of these barges were loaded in areas north of Memphis. It is reasonable to assume hundreds of barges of U.S. grain will be negatively impacted by the closure depending on its duration."

Steenhoek said it is important to regard this bridge closure and the resulting suspension of traffic in the broader context of a national and global supply chain that is currently under tremendous stress.
