let me tell you how I see news & journalism, first let me define those terms so we're clear what I'm talking about.

news = recent important events

journalism = reporting news

Once upon a time we lived in small villages and news was collected and transmitted by local gossips, any place that people met they would gossip and exchange news from near and far, journalism didn't exist.

Then came the invention of the press, and journalism was born. All was good as long as the press was isolated to a village small enough such that the gossips could keep the journalist honest. That is to say any news that was omitted or altered would be immediately noticed by the gossips and the journalist would be confronted with the truth of the matter. But villages soon grew larger and to a size where this mecanism was no longer effective and journalistic sins could be easily dismissed as 'erronious gossip'. Now the reason this is important is because news has always been about control. When an individual has the correct news of the day proper decisions about actions and future plans can be effective. When an individual only has altered news or propaganda to go by the actions and future plans are influenced by the agenda of the source of the information. Basically it's all about control, when you feed 'em bullshit & lies it's easy to lead 'em by the nose in whatever direction deemed expedient at the time, and individuals are hobbled in their efforts to make valid decisions and future plans.

The efforts of a few to control the many were obvious more than a century ago when Mark Twain wrote "If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed."

So now we find ourselves in a time when journalism is almost entirely warped by an agenda, it's propaganda not news the great majority of the time. The good news for mankind is that the local gossip isn't local anymore. The internet has made everybody neighbors, made all news local and a groups of gossips have begun holding journalists accountable by presenting the truth of the events instead of the propaganda. People are listening.
