"I'll tell you what I'd do, man... two chicks at the same time, man."
That's Lawrence... if he had a million dollars.
But what about Zuckerberg? He's got billions. I bet he's pondered it.
I suppose his wife might be taken aback, but need she be involved? (What if he wants to do a black chick and a white chick?)
He could tell her this is central to his identity, and could set it up all classy-like.
But I suspect the problem is that he's a total pussy.
He's got a well-paid gig as a hall monitor... and can't envision anything better.
It's odd, though, since he got there by playing the bad boy... which somehow earned him the right to rule us all.
We do have such lame rulers these days... if Genghis Khan wanted to do even three chicks I bet he'd just have them brought to his tent.
Take Zuck vs Fauci: they've both got status, but we all know who's master in that relationship, and it ain't Science Himself.
Still, the doc nailed the sad truth: he really is the paradigmatic scientist, a bureaucrat who cites peer-reviewed studies that claim someone did some operations on some data.
If you thought scientists work to discover the truth about nature, ok boomer, but my point is that Fauci has never been anything but a loser.
Whereas Zuck and @jack and the rest broke the rules (!) and that's why they are super cool and rich and in charge, or at least rich and in charge of the proles.
Except not long ago scientists themselves had cachet.
Take Feynman... obviously much smarter than Zuck... or Carl Sagan.
Two big ego science guys in the public eye who couldn't be more different...
Feynman disdained culture-schmulture, while Sagan had sophistication.
Feynman didn't like stuff that muddled the search for truth.
But Sagan thought the truth revealed a grand whole, that he sought to grasp and convey.
Two performers, perhaps, but in the same show.
But is there a Feynman or Sagan left today?
Or has the acclaim that goes to bigtime smart guys gravitated to tech bros who strike it big, leaving the "authority" of science to settle on the managers?
Feynman and Sagan both sought an ultimate picture, but did it include a story about how truth-loving men like themselves even exist?
For Sagan, sort of.... he discusses many pieces of cultural history and tells you which are good and which are bad.
But did he predict that universities would be overrun with liars and cowards and fools?
Maybe he got something wrong... (that said, I did like Contact).
As for Feynman, he thought much on how things came to be within his life... less so on how his life became possible within the bigger historical flow.
Before them was Bertrand Russell, maybe the first to use technical acumen as a launchpad to modern celebrity.
Early on he sought greatness, and surely achieved influence... his words turned both Gödel and Wittgenstein to new trajectories.
But that's not celebrity...
I think Lord Russell went wrong in confusing historical greatness with triumphalism.
The greats of the past are not simply markers to be reached and surpassed, but potential friends who can guide us, seeing things we don't and spurring us on.
Russell, in the heady rush of early achievement, perhaps forgot this... yet still caring about his place in history, learned to use the mass media...
And the rest is...
Henry Ford once said that history is just one damn thing after another. But that's false. History is alive... we can't just force it to be what we want (at least without repercussion) but maybe if we look, we can find what we need.
Here's my take... there are things to like about Russell and it is fun to think about symbolic logic and its uses.
But does it follow that if you're good at that, then you should dictate the lives of others?
Not to be hasty, but if we step back beyond Russell, maybe we need a bit more Nietzsche and a bit more Coleridge... all the world's indeed a stage and merely nuthin.
