temperamentally more "liberal" in the non-political sense - open to new ideas, not very conventional, go against the grain, into art but not fashion. never registered w/any political party, here mostly coz of dream (like a big pointer in the sky said "go directly to 1776 bakery, do not pass GO....." ) - which why i don't care much about twists and turns, big pointer still points to same place.
Irish Grandmother jailed for 90 days over refusal to wear face mask
A 66-year-old grandmother has been jailed for 90 days by a judge who said she had shown scant regard for the safety of others when refusing to wear a face mask in shops.
Margaret Buttimer, of St Fintan’s Road, Bandon, Co Cork, appeared at Bandon District Court charged with twice not wearing masks at SuperValu, Riverview Shopping Centre, in Bandon on June 25th and July 1st.
She was charged with contravening section 31A (1) of the Public Health Act 1947 as amended by 2020 legislation to prevent, limit, minimise or slow Covid-19’s spread by refusing to wear a mask in the shop.
Buttimer, who did not wear a mask in court, said she remembered being in SuperValu on both occasions, but had no recollection of pleading guilty last month to two charges in Bandon in May.
Following conviction, Judge James McNulty delayed sentencing for more than an hour to read a medical report from Dr Eleanor Mullen who specialises in the psychiatry of old age and a second report from a psychologist.
“Margaret Buttimer is entitled not to wear a mask at home or outdoors, but like every other citizen she is required by law to wear a mask when she enters a shop or other public indoor space,” he said.
“Unfortunately and regrettably, Margaret Buttimer has failed in her duty to take basic care for the protection of the health and safety of her fellow citizens.”
She had disregarded the rights of retail staff, and been “disrespectful to other compliant shoppers, who may be vulnerable, or may be the carers of vulnerable children or elderly relatives,” the judge said.

Harvard to study pyschedelics and the law as decriminalization gains steam

Harvard Law School is launching a groundbreaking research initiative into psychedelics and the law.
The Project on Psychedelics Law and Regulation, or POPLAR, is being funded by the Saisei Foundation, a nonprofit based in Austin, Texas, according to a Harvard Law blog post.
The research by the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology and Bioethics comes as some states and cities have decriminalized pschedelic drugs.
“Right now, there are a handful of psychedelics research centers at universities around the country. However, they are focused on clinical research,” Mason Marks, who is leading POPLAR, said in a Wednesday statement. “There is no systematic research being done on psychedelics law, and POPLAR will fill this gap.”
The researchers will focus on five areas: ethics in psychedelics research and therapeutics; challenges with psychedelics and intellectual property law; federal support for psychedelics research; access to and equity in emerging psychedelics industries; and the role of psychedelics in healing trauma. – READ MORE
