Clinical trials show that an inhaled COVID-19 vaccine made by China is safe and effective. - July 29, 2021

Clinical trials have shown that an inhaled COVID-19 vaccine made by China is safe and effective, according to a study published on Monday in The Lancet, a weekly peer-reviewed general medical journal.

Led by Chen Wei and her research team from the Academy of Military Sciences, this is the first clinical trial containing data of COVID-19 vaccine by the mucosal route. Research results recognized the safety of the inhaled COVID-19 vaccine.

The research suggested that aerosol vaccination with a fifth of the intramuscular dose could trigger a similar cellular immune response to that of one dose of intramuscular injections, and an aerosolized booster vaccination after intramuscular injection could induce strong neutralizing antibody responses.

According to the expert, the only difference between the inhaled vaccine and the injectable vaccine that has already hit the market will be the way of vaccination. The formulation prescription of the vaccine, the packaging, and the production facilities will be identical.

Meanwhile, the inhaled vaccine can also significantly improve the immunization effects of vaccinated people and protect them from the new COVID-19 variant. All these advantages make it suitable for mass vaccination.

Started in September 2020, this clinical trial was jointly conducted by researchers from the Institute of Military Medicine under the Academy of Military Sciences and Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, and is at its second phase of clinical trials.

10-point advisory to save loved ones from COVID-19 for people venturing out-doors - July 29, 2021

Thailand’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) is recommending a ten-point guideline for people who go outdoors for work, business or other essential reasons, to prevent them from bringing COVID-19 back home to their families and friends.

The department’s Deputy Director-General Dr. Sophon Iamsirsithavorn said today (Thursday) that, during the course of recent investigations of infected cases, they have noticed that quite a few people were unable to provide the sources or locations where they suspect they caught the disease.

The department, therefore, had to develop measures to prevent the disease from being spread into homes by people returning from outdoors, he said.

The DDC advises the following:

  1. Wash your car every time you return home with detergent and clean the door handles, upholstery, steering wheel and controls.

  1. Keep shoes outside your room or house.

  2. Dispose of your face masks at a separate dust bin.

  3. Clean your wristwatch, baggage, smart phone, glasses and keys with sanitizer.

  4. Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.

  5. Avoid touching anything in the house or sitting on a chair or sofa before taking a shower.

  6. Avoid touching any pet or anyone else in the house or apartment.

  7. Separate the clothing worn outdoors from those worn indoors.

  8. Take a shower and wash your hair immediately upon returning home.

  9. Use a personal cutlery and plates when dining with other family members.

Dr. Sophon said that the ten-point guideline will supplement the government’s measures in containing the spread of the disease adding, however, that leaving home only if necessary will help reduce the risk of infection.

O.K. the last from Thailand. This one is kinda "I see what you did there"-ish, to those of us who can not unsee or sleep.

First person to die after receiving mixed jabs had underlying health issues: DDC

A 39-year-old woman who died one day after receiving her second dose of vaccine in the government’s mixed-shot programme had underlying health issues, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said on Wednesday.

First person to die after receiving mixed jabs had underlying health issues: DDC

DDC deputy chief Dr Sophon Iamsirithavorn said the woman, a teacher with high blood pressure and a BMI of 31 (considered obese) received a Sinovac jab on June 28 and then an AstraZeneca jab on Monday (July 19). The woman, who was from Prachuap Khiri Khan, died on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old was the first person to die after receiving alternate vaccines, which have so far been administered to 84,000 people, Sophon said.

Her body has been sent for autopsy at King Mongkut's Hospital, with results on the cause of death expected soon.

A total of 14.8 million vaccine doses have been administered in Thailand since vaccinations began in March.

Approximately 229 deaths after vaccination have been reported, or 16 per one million recipients.

Results from autopsies and panels of investigating experts indicate the deaths were not caused directly by the vaccine but were linked to underlying chronic conditions. The most common of these are coronary artery disease and cerebrovascular disease.

The risk from vaccination remains tiny compared to the risk of being fatally infected with Covid-19, say health authorities.
