It's been a while, but I used to torrent quite a bit, mostly on public WiFis. Public WiFis were shielded from copyright laws due to their structure. I don't know what it's like these days. This article is pretty good... VPN, anti virus, sand box. If you have a sacrificial rig, that seems optimal with a VPN or public WiFi if it doesn't screw the owner.
