US sends nearly 1 million COVID vaccine doses to Caribbean nations

The Biden administration Wednesday began shipping more than 830,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to six Caribbean nations as part of its commitment to help the fight against the global pandemic.

The vaccine donations come on the heels of the U.S. Southern Command’s assistance to the Caribbean as part of a COVID-19 response effort that has included desperately needed field hospitals for several Caribbean countries seeing peaks in virus cases, ventilators, personal protection equipment and oxygen generators. Doral-based Southcom has more than 90 COVID-related projects in the Caribbean region alone, totaling more than $18 million, with more assistance to come, said Southern Command’s commanding officer, Adm. Craig Faller. Faller visited one of the donated COVID-19 field hospitals in Trinidad and Tobago before flying to Barbados as part of a three-day, two-nation Caribbean visit. ”Lives saved and the difference that this hospital has made, it strikes me as not a donation but it’s an investment. It’s an investment in our shared security because health security is national security,” Faller said standing inside the 28-bed facility in Port of Spain Tuesday alongside Trinidad Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh. “It’s an investment in this hemisphere and our shared vision for a secured, free and prosperous hemisphere.”

In announcing the vaccine shipments Wednesday, the Biden administration said Trinidad will receive 305,370 doses while Barbados will receive 70,200 doses. Donations will also go to the Bahamas, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Biden Refuses to Release Delaware Visitor Logs Despite Taking 17 Trips to Delaware Residences in Six Months

Joe Biden refuses to release Delaware visitor logs despite spending 17 weekends at his home base in the last 6 months.

Biden spends nearly every weekend away from the White House and travels to either Camp David or his Delaware residence. Joe Biden’s public schedule on the weekends is very vague.

We have no idea who is visiting Joe Biden every weekend in Delaware. When asked who is coming and going to Biden’s Delaware home, the White House said it’s none of our business.

“I can confirm we are not going to be providing information about the comings and goings of the president’s grandchildren or people visiting him in Delaware,” Psaki said during a briefing. Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton blasted the White House’s lack of transparency in a statement to The Post.

“It’s an easy way to bypass the alleged transparency they’re promising,” Tom Fitton said. “If they’re going to take the position that this information should be public, what are they hiding when it comes to visiting his home? The presidency doesn’t stop when he’s visiting Delaware,” Fitton added. “He is presumably doing work. So the public has an interest in knowing who is visiting him there. Is Hunter visiting him? … Joe Biden is the one who had Hunter at the vice president’s office meeting with his business partners.”

Earlier this year Psaki confirmed that Joe Biden speaks to Barack Obama “regularly.”

Biden Said to Pick Behnam as Top U.S. Derivatives Regulator

Joe Biden plans to name Rostin Behnam to lead the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which oversees much of the $582 trillion global derivatives market including cryptocurrency trading, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The White House recently selected Behnam, who’s been leading the agency on an interim basis since January, according to the people who weren’t authorized to speak publicly. The timing of an announcement is still weeks away, the people said. The pick would end months of speculation over who will oversee the Wall Street regulator that’s become significantly more powerful since the financial crisis. A White House spokesman declined to comment and CFTC officials didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Behnam’s nomination means that the CFTC will likely spend more time on issues like climate change. Behnam’s profile rose last year after he sponsored a report by an industry group that called on the U.S. government to require businesses to pay for their greenhouse gas emissions. In March, Behnam announced the CFTC plans to set up a climate-change unit that would assess derivatives’ role in reducing carbon emissions. The group has not yet released any findings. For much of Behnam’s time as acting chair, the agency has been deadlocked with two Republicans and two Democratic commissioners. To break that standstill, the White House will have to fill another open seat at the agency.

Behnam, a former aide to Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow, would likely win congressional backing. Under Democratic leadership, the CFTC is poised to shift its focus away from the Trump administration’s business-friendly policies and crack down on derivatives trading, a cash cow for Wall Street-BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-just like fuggen Gary when he ran it right??'

The CFTC also has jurisdiction over parts of the cryptocurrency sector. The CFTC has said Bitcoin is a commodity and CME Group Inc., which it regulates, lists futures contracts tied to the token. Meanwhile, Wall Street banks will be on the lookout for signs that the CFTC might revive efforts to assert its jurisdiction over cross-border swaps trading as it did after the 2008 financial crisis. Under Republican leadership, the agency took a far more deferential approach.
