Chaotic scenes continue at Kabul Airport. Overnight people slept on the plane, ripped seats off etc etc. We are still seeing thousands of people on the tarmac. No flights can take off.
Where the hell are the Americans (who had promised security)?? This is Saigon on steroids

U.S. officials say they are taking steps to secure Kabul’s international airport to enable the safe departure of thousands of U.S. and allied personnel from Afghanistan by way of civilian and military flights.
In a joint statement Sunday night, the State Department and the Pentagon say the U.S. security presence| will have expanded^ nearly 6.000 troops over the next two days. Those forces will take over air traffic control and focus on civilian and military departures.

As Western Embassies Retreat from Afghanistan, Russia and China Remain

Sixty-five nations have issued statements urging the Taliban to “to respect and facilitate the safe and orderly departure of foreign nationals and Afghans who wish to leave the country.” But not Russia or China.
According to the South China Morning Post, the Russian and Chinese embassies have no plans to leave Afghanistan, and both countries plan to keep their embassy staffs in place. The article also reported that a Taliban spokesman made a statement assuring “all embassies, diplomatic centres, institutions, places and foreign nationals” in Kabul that they would remain safe.
The SCMP also reported that China has asked the Taliban to respect the safety of its citizens and that Chinese nationals in Afghanistan have been advised to monitor the situation closely, observe safety precautions, and remain indoors.
Finally, the SCMP also telegraphed the following policy point to the Taliban by the Chinese. They want assurances from the Taliban that, in the future, Afghanistan will not harbor terrorist groups seeking to harm China.
Another Chinese publication, Global Times, echoed the SCMP reports that China has asked the Taliban to respect the safety of its citizens and that Chinese nationals in Afghanistan have been advised to monitor the situation closely, observe safety precautions, and remain indoors.
Similarly, Russia does not plan to evacuate its embassy in Kabul. The Moscow Times reported that foreign ministry official Zamir Kabulov told Russian agencies on Sunday, “No evacuation is planned,” adding that he was “in direct contact” with Moscow’s ambassador in Kabul and that Russian embassy employees continued to work “calmly”. According to the RIA Novosti agency, Kabulov was also quoted that Russia was among a number of countries to receive assurances from the Taliban that their embassies would be safe. “We received these guarantees a while ago. It was not only about Russia.”
What’s most significant about these statements and actions are the countries not mentioned or involved.

Lord Miles of Afghanistan: British student gets STUCK in Taliban-controlled Kabul, live-feeds his adventure in ‘weird country’
As foreigners flocked to get out of Afghanistan in recent days, one cheerful British student flew into the war-torn country, to “goof off and soak in the sun.” With the Taliban closing in, timing was not his strong suit.
When Miles Routledge touched down in Afghanistan on Friday, he made a 4chan post joking that the country seemed “safer than London.” The 22-year-old Loughborough University student posted pictures of the dirt-cheap food on offer, and described pleasant interactions with locals – albeit to the sound of what he said were “bombs” exploding nearby.
Routledge took a day trip across the country, chatting with soldiers and posing with military equipment. Based in the capital city of Kabul, he was initially unconcerned about the Taliban forces converging on the city. Just like US military and intelligence officials believed, he thought that he had “a good week or two” before the Islamist militants were at the gates.
That belief was shattered on Sunday. Routledge described the city as slipping into “anarchy” as the Taliban stormed Kabul, and with the British embassy apparently unwilling or unable to help him, he walked to the city’s airport disguised in a burqa. Upon arrival, Routledge told his 4chan buddies he expected to “either die a man or leave with giant balls.”....

OTTAWA, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday called an early election for Sept. 20, saying he needed a new mandate to ensure voters approved of his Liberal government's plan to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
