Summers Says Foreign Investors Should Feel ‘Anxiety’ About China

Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said China’s markets are a “riskier environment” for investors as the government intensifies its regulatory clampdown across industries.

China under President Xi Jinping has been cracking down on its most powerful tech stars, including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Tencent Holdings Ltd. and Didi Global Inc., helping ensure its grip on society. The government is also moving to address consumer worries about the gradual erosion of their privacy as tech companies make rapid advances in the use of tools from facial recognition to big data. The Hang Seng Index this week plunged to enter a technical bear market, showcasing how the moves have affected China-linked stocks. “Bad things keep happening, adverse surprises keep happening,” Summers said on Bloomberg Television’s “Wall Street Week” with David Westin. “The risks for foreign investors are going up -- and have to be going up at a time when the greater insertion of the Communist Party into every private enterprise is emerging as a very important priority for the Chinese government.” Summers, a paid contributor to Bloomberg and a professor at Harvard University, said “anxiety is the right thing” for investors to feel. “It’s certainly a riskier environment and when you have a riskier environment people demand much higher returns,” he said.

Taliban seizing Afghan-American’s US passports outside Kabul airport

Scenes of chaos and calamity continue to unfold in and around Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, as thousands of embattled Afghans purport to push through Taliban barricades and escape the country before the Taliban takes full power.

In the latest blow to those running up against the clock, Afghan-Americans on Thursday said that Taliban fighters are now attempting to take their U.S. passports and identification orders in an attempt to stop them from leaving the country. “I got to the gates and was about to show my passport, but the Taliban got it, and he said you are not allowed to go through and wouldn’t give it back,” one Afghan-American, who served for several years as an interpreter during the war and has his home in the U.S but requested anonymity for safety reasons, said. “I was lucky a U.S. marine was right there and forced him to give it back.”

According to several others, some have not been so lucky — hamstringing their chance to make it home ahead of the Taliban’s officially assuming of the throne. “U.S. passports, driver’s licenses — they are confiscating those pieces of documentation from American citizens,” said Ephraim Mattos, a former Navy SEAL and founder of the humanitarian organization, Stronghold Rescue and Relief, which is working around the clock to evacuate Afghans interpreters and helpers. “They lose proof of who they are, and this has happened on multiple occasions in multiple places.” President Joe Biden on Friday said they “know of no circumstance where American citizens are carrying an American passport” and not able to reach the airport. “We’ve made an agreement with the Taliban,” Biden said. “So we know of no circumstance where American citizens are carrying an American passport for trying to get through to the airport, but we will do whatever needs to be done to see to get more

Other Afghan-Americans describe scenes of crowds getting crushed and even infant babies getting injured, of brutal beatings by some Taliban members to push back the sea of frenzied faces. Initially, Afghan Special Forces were said to control some of the key roads toward the airport. But soon after darkness fell on Wednesday, the Taliban is said to have taken over. Minute-by-minute, the scene is simply becoming direr as the insurgency cements a more formidable grasp over the city’s checkpoints and routes.

Several U.S. officials also affirmed that the Taliban on Thursday ratcheted up its crackdown encircling the airport. The group’s leadership has vowed to protect all Afghans and assured no acts of revenge would be tolerated, while at the same time stressing that citizens of the beleaguered country should not leave. Meanwhile, in Herat, more than a week after the Taliban seized the provincial capital, residents have continued to paint a chilling portrait of intimidation as the waiting game for the U.S. departure draws near. “Taliban are searching home by home in Herat and asking about me,” one business owner with long-term ties to the United States, who is currently in an undisclosed location outside of Afghanistan, said. “Then others came to the Kabul office and asked about the company and our clients and warned they would search for information.”

It is a jarring fact of simply not knowing what lies ahead, driving much of the desperation forward.“These people are our allies; we fought shoulder-to-shoulder with them. I saw them fight just as bravely as any American soldier, and they deserve our support. What our country is doing to them now is a complete disgrace,” Mattos added. “What is happening is significantly worse than Saigon.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green drafting Articles of Impeachment for Biden over Afghan debacle

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) discusses the circumstances surrounding her drafting of the Articles of Impeachment against President Biden regarding his handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal. She also raises the alarm on the dire need of America to not hand over ‘the mining rights of over 1 trillion of rare earth minerals’ located in Afghanistan to China in a deal by the Taliban. She explains that China currently ‘dominates over 80%’ of the rare mineral mines in the world, including Lithium that is used for batteries. She states that by combining this with the passage of the Infrastructure Bill, which requires that cars be battery-powered by 2030, will be ‘handing over the American people to be slaves to China's battery market’.

Tired Of Being President, Biden Hangs 'Trump Won' Sign Out Of White House Window

After realizing that being the President is really hard, and he was never really that excited about it anyway, President Biden decided to go ahead and just hang a giant 'Trump Won' sign out of the White House window.

"Listen, folks—fair is fair," said Biden. "Trump won this thing. Yeah, I cheated on the election, but that was, like, nine or ten months ago. Gimme a break folks!" Shocked onlookers began to take pictures as Biden unfurled the massive flag he bought from a street vendor on Pennsylvania Ave.

Explaining his decision to reporters, he said: "I'm not sure why I really wanted to do this thing to begin with. I guess I thought it would be fun, but it's not fun at all. It's just a bunch of malarkey. You people ain't cool. Just askin' me questions and getting all in my business all the time! What's that about, anyway? Has anyone seen the remote control? I'm behind on my Matlock episodes." Biden then picked up a piece of toast and pointed it at the TV. "Darn thing doesn't work!" Aides quickly scrambled to pull down the flag before the media caught wind of it, but not before the image was posted to social media.

Biden is now being investigated by the FBI for sharing election misinformation.

F.D.A. Aims for Full Approval of Pfizer Covid Vaccine on Monday

The Food and Drug Administration is pushing to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s two-dose Covid-19 vaccine on Monday, further expediting an earlier timeline for licensing the shot, according to people familiar with the agency’s planning.

Regulators were working to finish the process by Friday but were still working through a substantial amount of paperwork and negotiation with the company. The people familiar with the planning, who were not authorized to speak publicly about it, cautioned that the approval might slide beyond Monday if some components of the review need more time. An F.D.A. spokeswoman declined to comment. The agency had recently set an unofficial deadline for approval of around Labor Day. The approval is expected to pave the way for a series of vaccination requirements by public and private organizations who were awaiting firmer regulatory backing before implementing mandates. Federal and state health officials are also hoping that an approved vaccine will draw interest from some Americans who have been hesitant to take one that was only authorized for emergency use, a phenomenon suggested by recent polling.

Some universities and hospitals are expected to mandate inoculation once a vaccine is fully approved. The Pentagon earlier this month said it plans to make Covid vaccinations mandatory for the country’s 1.3 million active-duty troops “no later” than the middle of next month, or sooner if the F.D.A. acts earlier. The timing of the approval could result in an uncomfortable messaging problem for the Biden administration, which on Wednesday announced that fully vaccinated people should prepare to get booster shots eight months after they received second doses. Approving the vaccine and encouraging boosters at the same time may suggest to some that the vaccine as licensed is inadequate without an extra shot. The F.D.A. last week updated its authorizations of Pfizer-BioNTech’s and Moderna’s vaccine to allow third doses for some immunocompromised people, a decision backed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Regulators are still reviewing Moderna’s application for full approval for its coronavirus vaccine, and a decision could come at least several weeks after the one for Pfizer-BioNTech.

Kneepads is Not AF2

SAM057 and SAM060 USAF C-32A departing JBA

Heading to Anchorage, AK for a refuel and the first stop is Singapore followed by Vietnam

When kneepads went to Guatemala earlier this year both of the departing AC's were designated SAM flights. Remember one had a technical failure and both had to return to JBA.

They both departed as SAM flights on the second departure

Kneepads AC stayed SAM until returning from Mexico City when it switched to AF2 at some point over Gulf of Mexico
