In some deep sense this is why this has had to go on so long.
How many people have been forced to take a step where they realiize that everything in life hinges on that right there?
Not most, probably.... but MANY!
(Or at least many have chosen rightly...)
And they are not all the same.
These two are honest "free-thinking liberals" who faced a crisis of conscience and realized they had to take a step that would likely cast them out of the world they know. (I know Boghossian is and I'm pretty sure that Julie Ponesse is.... I think I've seen her before.... )
But on the flip side, how many "conservatives" have had to face the choice of becoming unemployed or denouncing "traditional" institutions (police/military/stable business), just to keep their moral compass straight?
Many are cowards and fall short, but those who face the challenge and choose rightly will prove to be leaders, I think.
