That's where I grew up. It's gone and I don't know how to get it back for my grandkids while they are still young enough to benefit from it. The little store at the bottom of the hill used to pay us for the glass bottles we picked up … 2 cents for the little ones, 5 cents for the big … on the way. That was how we financed twizzlers, rod pretzels, soda and kite string.
My grandchildren are just outside of Minneapolis. It isn't safe for them to be out of sight of their parents because they are white and little Somalia is nearby.
