UK pauses daily coronavirus deaths update over potentially faulty data
LONDON – Britain said on Saturday it was pausing its daily update of the death toll from the coronavirus after the government ordered a review into the calculation of the data over concerns the toll might have been exaggerated.
Academics have said the way that Public Health England (PHE), the government agency responsible for managing infectious disease outbreaks, calculates the figures in England means they may be distorted compared to other parts of the United Kingdom.
“Currently the daily deaths measure counts all people who have tested positive for coronavirus and since died, with no cut-off between time of testing and date of death,” a message on the government’s website said.
“There have been claims that the lack of cut-off may distort the current daily deaths number. We are therefore pausing the publication of the daily figure while this is resolved.”

Since the rioters aren’t dealing with the weak kneed city and county leaders on federal property, US District Attorney Billy Williams is pursuing charges against several of the terrorists, and the feds have been making several arrests over the last week or so.

Trump’s former doctor, retired Navy Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson, wins Texas primary
The former White House physician under President Donald Trump as well as three other Republicans are likely heading to Congress next year after winning primary runoffs in ruby-red districts Tuesday.
The GOP contests were the main events in two districts in Texas and two in Alabama, where Republican retirements opened up House seats that are likely to remain in the GOP column.
The retiring lawmakers in all four districts picked their preferred candidates, but only one of the four was successful. Two familiar faces, former White House physician Ronny Jackson and former GOP Rep. Pete Sessions, won their primary runoffs in Texas. In Alabama, the anti-tax Club for Growth got one of its preferred candidates in one race and lost in a second.
Familiar Texans GOP Rep. Mac Thornberry did not get his preferred successor Tuesday, with Jackson defeating lobbyist Josh Winegarner in the runoff for the 13th District in the Texas Panhandle. President Donald Trump endorsed Jackson, which likely boosted his campaign. Winegarner had support from Thornberry and a number of other state and local elected officials.
Jackson led with 56% of the vote to Winegarner’s 44% when The Associated Press called the race with an estimated 90% of precincts reporting.

At least one rocket managed to launch this week as Northrop Grumman used its Minotaur IV to get a National Reconnaissance Office spacecraft into space.
A weekend attempt by SpaceX to launch its next batch of Starlink satellites as well as a Tuesday launch attempt by SpaceX for the South Korean military along with a planned launch from Japan of a Mars orbiter for the United Arab Emirates have all be scrubbed this week.
But the launch designated NROL-129 with four secret payloads designed by the agency took off from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia’s Eastern Shore at 9:46 a.m. Wednesday, the first dedicated launch from the NRO at the mid-Atlantic site.
“NROL-129 represents a collaboration between the NRO and our industry partners to design, build, launch and operate a system of satellites that will demonstrate revolutionary capabilities of value to the nation and our allies,” said NRO Director Chris Scolese. “Despite facing challenges in 2020, we have found new and better ways to collaborate with our partners from a distance, relentlessly pursuing our mission and denying sanctuary to our adversaries.”

US spy plane appears in South China Sea amid increased tensions with Beijing
One of the US Navy’s MQ-4C Triton high altitude long endurance (HALE) reconnaissance drones was spotted entering the South China Sea on Wednesday – the latest addition to an increasingly long list of US spy planes plying the waterway in recent months.
The unmanned aerial vehicle was spotted entering the northern end of the South China Sea via the Bashi Channel on Wednesday, where it seemed to zero-in on some object of interest before departing the region.
Sputnik reported in January on the stationing of the US Navy’s first two MQ-4C Tritons on Guam, at the far side of the Philippine Sea from the Bashi Channel, noting at the time that the aircraft’s wide radius of operations would allow it to enter parts of the strategic waterway where Washington disputes many of China’s claims of sovereignty.
While one day the US Navy hopes to use Tritons, which it specially adapted from the Air Force’s RQ-4 Global Hawk for nautical surveillance, to patrol the entire western Pacific region, for now appearances of the Tritons remain relatively rare.

Iran allegedly places air defenses on ‘high alert’ over recent events: media
BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:45 P.M.) – A U.S. official said that the United States has several intelligence reports indicating that Iran has placed parts of its air defenses on “high alert” in recent days.
The U.S. official, who is closely following the developments, said that the alert level means that Iranian air missile batteries will be ready to fire at targets “believed to constitute a threat”, according to CNN.
The official did not say how the United States got to this information, but American satellites, spy planes and ships are routinely operating in the nearby international field, which is constantly monitoring Iran.
The U.S. official said the main concern of the United States lies in the possibility of “attacking” Iran and the latter launching a counterattack in an unpredictable way because it believes it might be attacked by Israel or the United States.
“The Iranian military tactic of putting air defenses on alert may not really address the potential threat they envision. All the attacks were entirely ground, without any indication of any fighters, launchers or missiles launched against Iran.”
