Portland protests: Police union building set on fire, riot declared

 

Protesters in Portland, Ore., were met with a show of force from officers on Saturday as police declared a riot in the area after a police union building was set on fire. It is the 51st consecutive night of demonstrations in the city, which were initially sparked by the killing of Black man George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in May.

 

Federal officers have been deployed to Portland under the Trump administration’s new executive order protecting U.S. monuments and buildings. President Donald Trump has decried the demonstrations, and Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf blasted the protesters as “lawless anarchists” in a visit to the city on Thursday. “We are trying to help Portland, not hurt it,” Trump tweeted Sunday. “Their leadership has, for months, lost control of the anarchists and agitators. They are missing in action. We must protect Federal property, AND OUR PEOPLE. These were not merely protesters, these are the real deal!”

Manhunt underway after 13 people gunned down in Peoria mass shooting…

 

PEORIA — Peoria police say multiple shooters were involved in an incident on the riverfront early Sunday morning that left 13 with gunshot wounds. “Multiple shooters were involved, and the shooting is a result of a dispute between groups of people, gangs.” Officers responded at 4:42 a.m. to the area of Water Street and Hamilton Boulevard and found a large gathering of nearly 200 people. Two victims were located at the scene — an adult male with a gunshot wound to the neck and an adult female. Both victims were transported to a local hospital via ambulance with serious injuries. Eleven victims with gunshot wounds to their extremities arrived separately to local hospitals via private vehicles. In total from the riverfront incident, there were six men and seven women shot, Dotson said.
