Stimulus check: Is a second round coming?
Almost three months into the first round, not everyone who qualifies has received their check, but it looks like a Stimulus Check 2 could be happening, as President Trump seems to support the idea.
In an interview with Nexstar reporter Jessi Turnure on July 7, President Trump said that a second stimulus package will be ready “very soon".
Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) said Monday (July 13) that he expects the Senate to begin debates on its own version of the next stimulus package soon, Newsweek reports. He also suggested that lawmakers may have something ready to go before the Senate breaks for its next recess after Aug. 10. More recently on July 17, Treasury Secretery Steve Mnuchin urged Congress to approve a second stimlulus check package by the end of the month.
In a July 19 interview with Fox News, President Trump voiced his support for a new round of stimulus, but with certain conditions. Specifically, Trump pushed for a payroll tax cut and liability protections for businesses that open. Trump said he “would consider not signing” a bill that did not include the payroll tax cut.
