New AJC anti-Semitism director: Look at my track record, not my skin or religion

Incoming American Jewish Committee anti-bigotry head Holly Huffnagle is white and Christian; she’s also worked as a Holocaust researcher and for the US anti-Semitism czar

NEW YORK — At a time when Jews in the United States are being blamed for COVID-19 or for paying asylum seekers to seek refuge there, fighting anti-Semitism can sometimes feel like standing in the middle of a downpour with no umbrella.

“I would argue that today anti-Semitism is more complex than at any other point in history because all of these factors don’t just exist separately, they also exist simultaneously online,” Holly Huffnagle, the newly appointed American Jewish Committee’s US Director for Combating Antisemitism, told The Times of Israel in a recent interview.

In her new role, Huffnagle will direct the agency’s response to anti-Semitism in the US and its efforts to better protect the Jewish community.

Huffnagle, who previously served as a policy advisor to the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism at the US State Department, has fought against anti-Semitism since her graduate school days at Georgetown University. Yet, in spite of her resume, Huffnagle’s promotion has been met with consternation in some quarters. That’s because Huffnagle, 33, is an observant Baptist who goes to church every Sunday.

Still, she’s determined to forge ahead.

“As someone who is not Jewish, it’s hard to personally figure out my own voice in this space because I’m not the direct recipient of anti-Semitism or bigotry. However, I want to help American Jewish communities be freer. We can’t necessarily solve the problem, but we can work to make people freer from prejudice,” she said in a Zoom call from her home in Los Angeles.

Catherine Engelbrecht: Mail-In Voting Is ‘Engineered Chaos’ to Manipulate 2020 Election

True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht says Democrats’ campaign for universal mail-in voting is “engineered chaos” designed to manipulate the 2020 presidential election results.

In an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Saturday, Engelbrecht said that unlike absentee voting, universal mail-in voting is susceptible to fraud because it sends a mail-in ballot to every registered voter — including noncitizens who may have unintentionally registered, those who have been inactive for decades, and voters who have since died.

Currently, Engelbrecht said, there are about 70 lawsuits across the nation where Democrats are hoping to implement universal mail-in voting or loosen election standards.

“What mail-in does, and what we’re seeing pushed for now in lawsuits or by bureaucratic fiat … are universal mail-ins and sending those ballots to everybody on the voter list, active and inactive,” Engelbrecht said. “We haven’t seen voters here that have voted in decades, but now they’re going to get ballots. And as a standard, we know that people move routinely … that ballot is not going to find its way to them.”

“Then you throw in all the dysfunction that is the U.S. Postal Service … and it begs the question, why are we doing this if not but for intentional manipulation to a certain end,” Engelbrecht said. “This is engineered chaos. We need to see it for what it is. This is not an effort to make sure that those who’ve been affected by the pandemic are going to be able to cast their ballot in a secure and well-defined process. It’s anything but that.”

Engelbrecht said that rather than voters deciding the 2020 presidential election, Democrats are “hoping to create such a fog around this whole process that then their lawyers, who are very well organized, can swoop in and battle this out in court.”

Specifically, former President Obama’s administration opened universal mail-in voting to a whole slew of fraud thanks to their expansion of social services to noncitizens, according to Engelbrecht.

“The problems you get into are incorrect residences, you have conditions created largely through motor-voter and then emphasized under the Obama administration that requires that all social service programs have voter registration applications attached to them,” Engelbrecht said.

“And what the Obama administration did is when they opened up all those social service programs to noncitizens and created a very subtle shift in language to require that you opt-out in registering to vote when you enroll in these programs,” Engelbrecht continued. “It used to be that you would have to opt-in to register to vote … so if you don’t and you are a noncitizen and you are applying for Social Security or welfare or food stamps, which you can do because of an Obama administration law, you’re going to potentially find yourself registered to vote.”

Engelbrecht said that in order to have a secure election utilizing mail-in voting, voter rolls would have to be completely cleaned up, and mandatory voter identification standards including signature verification would have to be implemented.

“In 22 states, there is no standard for voter identification,” Engelbrecht said.

Democrats’ push for universal mail-in voting would potentially deliver ballots to an estimated 24 million ineligible voters. The plan is being bankrolled by organizations funded by billionaire George Soros.

Recent data has not shown a compelling public health justification for mail-in voting. In Wisconsin’s April election, only 52 of more than 400,000 voters and poll workers were confirmed to have contracted the Chinese coronavirus. None of those cases were fatal. This equals an infection rate below two-hundredths of one percent.

Broken Trust? FBI wanted to use White House briefings to spy on Trump, aides, memos show

Former intel, FBI officials decry tactics as breach of intelligence briefing process.

Donald Trump was president for only 24 hours when then-FBI supervisor Peter Strzok sent an angry missive to his boss. A colleague had given the new White House a counterintelligence briefing and hadn't consulted on how to use the meeting to further the Russia collusion investigation.

"I heard from [redacted] about the WH CI briefing routed from [redacted]," Strzok wrote on Jan. 21, 2017, a day into the new Trump presidency after learning fellow agent Jennifer Boone had given the White House a briefing without his knowledge.

"I am angry that Jen did not at least cc: me, as my branch has pending investigative matters there," Strzok added in his email to Assistant Director for Counterintelligence William Priestap. "This brief may play into our investigative strategy, and I would like the ability to have visibility and provide thoughts/counsel to you in advance of the briefing.

"This is one of the reasons why I raised the issue of lanes/responsibilities that I did when you asked her to handle WH detailee interaction."

A day before Trump took office, Strzok, Priestap and other senior FBI managers were scrambling to figure out their strategy as Trump assumed the presidency and the bureau continued to pursue its deeply flawed Russia collusion probe, according to emails turned over under the Freedom of Information Act to the conservative watchdog Judicial Watch and made public Friday.

By that time, the bureau knew that the Christopher Steele dossier — the crucial evidence used to support a FISA warrant against Trump associates — had been partly debunked by one of the former MI-6 agent's intelligence sources, who denied information attributed to him in the dossier.

The FBI also knew from an agent who had investigated Trump national security adviser Micheal Flynn that there was no "derogatory information" against the retired general after a 5-month investigation and the agent wanted to shut down the probe.

But FBI leadership had a different plan, to keep the investigation codenamed Crossfire Hurricane open in the absence of any credible evidence and try to trip up Flynn in an interview during the chaotic first days of a new presidency.

"Please relay above to WFO [Washington Field Office] and [redacted] tonight, and keep me updated with plan for meet and results of same," Strzok wrote in an email chain late on the night of Jan. 19, 2017, hours before Trump's inauguration.

Claim: Ancestors of New York Times Family Included Slave Owners, Confederate Supporters

Michael Goodwin of the New York Post published an extensive investigative article on Sunday claiming that ancestral members of the family that owns the New York Times likely included slaveowners.

Moreover, Goodwin recounted, the extended family also included members who fought for the Confederacy; contributed to Confederate memorials after the Civil War; and perhaps even engaged in the slave trade.

The claims cast the Times‘ effort to condemn America for the sins of slavery in an ironic light.

Goodwin explained:

Last Sunday, I recounted that Bertha Levy Ochs, the mother of Times patriarch Adolph S. Ochs, supported the South and slavery. She was caught smuggling medicine to Confederates in a baby carriage and her brother Oscar joined the rebel army.

I have since learned that, according to a family history, Oscar Levy fought alongside two Mississippi cousins, meaning at least three members of Bertha’s family fought for secession.

Ochs reportedly made contributions to rebel memorials, including $1,000 to the enormous Stone Mountain Memorial in Georgia that celebrates Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. He made the donation in 1924 so his mother, who died 16 years earlier, could be on the founders’ roll, adding in a letter that “Robert E. Lee was her idol.”

I have found compelling evidence that the uncle Bertha Levy Ochs lived with for several years in Natchez, Miss., before the Civil War owned at least five slaves.

He was her father’s brother and his name was John Mayer because he dropped the surname Levy, according to a family tree compiled by the Ochs-Sulzberger clan some 70 years ago.

Separately, there is also compelling evidence that the brother of a Revolutionary War-era ancestor of the Sulzberger branch of the family was involved in the slave trade.

Read Goodwin’s full article here.

The Times has gained notoriety in recent months for the “1619 Project,” an effort to rewrite American history by viewing the true origin of the United States as the arrival of the first slave in 1619 — and not with the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

The founding essay of that project won a Pulitzer Prize, though the Times had already corrected its false claim that “one of the primary reasons” for the American Revolution was colonists “wanted to protect the institution of slavery.”
