It isn't a slippery slope if someone understands basic biology. An egg or a sperm isn't a new human. They lack their own unique set of new chromosomes. The claim that anyone believes an egg or sperm is a new life deserving protection is asinine and the only people claiming it are pro abortion shills with no self respect. A zygote has both sets of chromosomes and long before the woman could know she was pregnant it splits and becomes an embryo. This happens in a matter of days/even hours. It is pretty much a nonissue in the abortion debate except in the small percentage of rape cases or failed contraception situations. Any effort to end that possible pregnancy would be based on "just in case" rather than any proof of pregnancy.

Science - if you believe in that - tells us that a new human is formed when a life has its own set of chromosomes. An embryo certainly meets this basic, uncontested criteria. The fact that sometimes mutations occur doesn't make it less human. It just makes it different than its parents and we have undergone mutations since the beginning of time.

Even Roe vs. Wade doesn't claim an embryo or fetus is not human. It merely strips it of "personhood" as a legal device to protect the rights of the more politically powerful. All the nonsense about it becoming human when the heart beats, it feels pain, it looks like a human, it is viable, etc. is pure, empathetic nonsense that spits on basic biology. Pro choice folks who pretend that the fetus at some point becomes a human or gets a soul, etc. later in the pregnancy are practicing a bizarre, convenient religion.

A healthy fetus is merely a human at an early stage of development with no political power who in very short order will no longer be dependent on its mother to survive and "magically" deserve all the humanitarian rights we all demand for ourselves and others.
