Joy Reid Gives Joe Biden Pass on N-Word in Primetime Debut

MSNBC’s Joy Reid gave presumptive 2020 Democrat presidential nominee former Vice President Joe Biden a pass concerning the revelation he repeatedly used the “N-word” in the 1980s in U.S. Senate hearings during her primetime debut on Monday night.

Reid, a black woman, on Monday hosted her first episode of The Reid Out, her new primetime show replacing the ousted longtime MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews. Reid’s rise to prominence comes amid the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, and after Matthews—the host of Hardball for more than 20 years—was pushed out after a string of controversies plagued the end of his career.

For her debut program, Reid landed an interview with Biden. Biden is a huge interview for any network news show because Biden will be the Democrat candidate for president in November and could become President of the United States. Despite landing the huge interview, Reid failed to ask Biden about the biggest story of the day about Biden, which Breitbart News broke earlier in the day, which was the fact that Biden used the “N-word” more than a dozen times in a series of U.S. Senate hearings in 1985.

The story from Breitbart News topped social media networks throughout the day Monday ahead of Reid’s debut and her live interview with Biden. Some even publicly asked her to ask Biden about the story, including Georgia State Rep. Vernon Jones–a black Democrat who has said he will back President Donald Trump in November:

.@JoyAnnReid I’ve seen @JoeBiden say the “N-word” 13 times so comfortably. Ask him on your show did practice make him perfect? https://t.co/RmJOan7Muf

— Vernon Jones (@RepVernonJones) July 20, 2020

Quoting someone else, Biden used the “N-word” thirteen times over three separate hearings in 1985, according to U.S. Senate hearing transcripts. Some video clips of a couple of the instances have circulated online in recent weeks, but the extent to which Biden went in three days of U.S. Senate hearings in the summer of 1985 to use the “N-word” repeatedly–13 total times over three days of hearings–has gone unreported until this week.

Biden’s campaign still has not addressed questions about this, and the first interview he gave since this came out was with MSNBC’s Reid, who failed to ask him about it.

Reid’s decision to give Biden a pass on his repeated use of the racial slur—even though he was quoting someone else in so doing—cuts against her history of calling out almost anyone who uses the term, from politicians to Hollywood directors and more.

Perhaps the most important "I have a black friend" rule just stated on @MHPshow: you don't get to use the n-word. Nope. Never. #nerdland

— Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid) August 11, 2013

You’ve been DYING to say it, haven’t you, Joe. You probably say it on your own all the time. Well your hood is off now. We see you. https://t.co/AXrR7X7r3L

— Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid) October 1, 2017

Reid opened her program by noting the recent passing of Civil Rights Movement icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), arguing that there is “a contrast” between President Trump and people like Biden and her second guest, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She opened the program by claiming that Clinton was “denied” the ability to serve as president–even though she got millions more national popular votes than Trump–because of the electoral college.

The Real Unemployment Rate Is 21%… And Heading Higher

As businesses, agencies and organizations recalibrate to the reality that the V-shaped recovery was nothing but a brief fantasy, 6 million additional jobs lost may be a best-case scenario rather than the worst-case scenario.

It is somewhat less than reassuring that the "official" unemployment rate of around 12% is roughly half of the "real-world" unemployment rate. As always in the wonderful world of statistics, especially politically potent ones, it depends on what you measure, what you don't measure / act as if it doesn't exist, and how you measure what you do measure.

Everyone who digs beneath the headline numbers of employment / unemployment soon discovers a number of jarring anomalies in what the media presents as "factual statistics."

The first is that the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) doesn't actually count the number of people who are employed / unemployed; they rely on a sampling survey of employers, which is more like an election poll than an actual measurement.

Secondly, they estimate the number of new businesses which are "born" and existing businesses that "die", and then guesstimate the number of additional employees this real-time churn generates. This birth/death model is notoriously inaccurate, as it ignores little things like pandemics and is often magically revised to create or eliminate hundreds of thousands of presumed jobs.

State unemployment offices tabulate the number of unemployment claims received and processed. These are real numbers, not guesses like the BLS estimates. Wolf Richter prepared a chart of the real unemployment claims numbers which is reprinted below, from his post 32 Million People on State & Federal Unemployment, 2nd Highest Ever: Week 17 of U.S. Labor Market Collapse.

The BLS reported that the U.S. employed workforce stood at about 152 million in February. With 32 million claiming unemployment, that's an unemployment rate of 21%. How do we arrive at a 12% unemployment rate? We ignore the 14.3 million contract / gig workers who are currently drawing emergency Federal unemployment via Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA),and the 936,000 in the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) program.

But even the 21% real-world unemployment rate doesn't reflect the full unemployment picture: previously full-time workers who have had their hours cut to part-time aren't counted in unemployment statistics, even though their employment status has changed for the worse.

Then there are the millions of workers who were recalled to work as businesses re-opened whose employment is up in the air as the expected return-to-normal has failed to materialize.

An entire class of workers has been glossed over: small business owners who have closed their businesses. Those owners who incorporated and paid unemployment insurance on themselves as employees of the corporation qualify for unemployment, but many small business owners didn't pay themselves as employees, and their status is uncertain.

Anecdotally, the number of small business owners who have decided to close in recent weeks appears to be significant, as the hoped-for V-shaped recovery failed to materialize even as states re-opened. This trend could gather momentum as hope decays into realistic assessment and funds borrowed from emergency federal programs (PPP) run out.

The number of employees who will be laid off again as a rising flood of small businesses throw in the towel could quickly become consequential.

Barring an immediate additional influsion of federal stimulus, local governments will also start laying off temp and contract workers as tax revenues continue their downward spiral.

As Corporate America's revenues falter, the only ways to reduce costs are 1) dump leases on commercial space and 2) lay off employees and 3) slash spending to the bone. All of these end up triggering layoffs.

Could the number of unemployed rise to 38 million from 32 million, a 25% rate of unemployment? As businesses, agencies and organizations recalibrate to the reality that the V-shaped recovery was nothing but a brief fantasy, 6 million additional jobs lost may be a best-case scenario rather than a worst-case scenario.

Biden’s ‘Warning’ to Russian President Vladimir Putin About Non-Existent Election Meddling is Laughable

Joe Biden is a feeble puppet so his ‘warning’ to Russian President Vladimir Putin about non-existent election meddling was laughable.

The 77-year-old presumptive Democrat nominee on Monday threatened Putin during a live broadcast.

“And Putin knows I mean what I say,” Biden said wagging his finger. “This is a violation of our sovereignty, our sovereignty — and in fact if it [election meddling] occurs, there will be response in kind.”

Scary Biden continued, “It will not go unstated, unnoticed or unreported.”

If Biden is so concerned about our sovereignty, the why did he just release a plan with Bernie to abolish our borders?

The Democrats are once again crying about foreign interference in the presidential election.

Top Democrat lawmakers in both the House and Senate wrote a letter to the FBI asking the bureau to provide Congress with a counterintelligence briefing on a so-called ‘concerted foreign interference’ campaign targeting Congress and the 2020 election.

Grenell said the Gang of Eight were already briefed by the FBI weeks ago so the Dems’ request is just a CYA.

Universities nationwide promote mental health app to treat 'anxiety over racism'

Universities have offered an app called Sanvello to students as mental health support.

A recent article from the service proposed that fighting racism will provide the “path to peace.”

A mental health app circulated by colleges recommends allying with efforts toward antiracism for users with anxiety.

Sanvello, a service marketed as the “#1 app for stress, anxiety, and depression with over 3 million users,” offers therapies for dealing with mental health stress, including tools for coaching, peer support, and self-care. Users receive premium access to the app free of charge for the duration of the pandemic.

“If you’re white, approaching the process of unraveling racism may seem foreboding, yet discomfort (and there will be some) does not dismiss the necessity of the work"

The website for the app recently published a blog article titled “Anxiety over racism: A path towards peace” which encourages readers to work through their anxiety and choose to be active against racism, in a piece listed under the same category as articles providing tips for managing anxiety attacks and handling flight anxiety.

[RELATED: Harvard study finds trigger warnings increase anxiety]

“If you’re white, approaching the process of unraveling racism may seem foreboding, yet discomfort (and there will be some) does not dismiss the necessity of the work,” author Roxane Battle writes. “To be sure, there will be bumps in the road ahead. Mistakes will be made. But the fear of saying the wrong thing or not getting it exactly right should not deter. It’s part of the process. As many a scraped knee can attest, we have to keep climbing back on [the] bike until we all learn to ride."

Allyship, Battle writes, “is a pathway forward, a path towards peace.”

The Sanvello app has been endorsed by universities across America.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis promoted Sanvello as a resource for dealing with stressful situations.

“It helps people gain more mindfulness around their mental health and well-being,” the associate vice provost for Student Affairs at UMSL commented. “The great thing is that it’s customizable and really specific to different circumstances. Before you give a presentation in class, you can listen to a 10-minute meditation on being mindful about how you’re going to present yourself. There’s also one for flying. People can gain some valuable skills if they get into the app and really immerse themselves in it.”

Pepperdine University and Southwest Tennessee Community College advertise Sanvello in conjunction with other COVID-19 resources, while Brigham Young University, Syracuse University, Texas A&M University, the University of Maine-Machias, the University of Missouri System, and the University of Washington-Seattle recommend Sanvello as part of their student wellness services.

When discussing an initiative to improve mental health resources for students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, co-chair Kathryn Brewer said the university was seeking to update its services and develop new strategies – which specifically included the addition of Sanvello.

“These initiatives will save lives,” Brewer said.

California Church Defies Governor Newsom Order, Holds Indoor Services

A church in Rocklin, California, held services on Sunday in defiance of California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) shutdown order barring houses of worship holding indoor gatherings.

Destiny Christian Church pastor Greg Fairrington told KTXL that he lead three services with 375 parishioners, filing 25 percent of the church that has a capacity of 1,500 people.

“Church is essential. It is essential to our society, and people are hurting. They’re devastated,” Fairrington told the local news outlet.

During his firey sermon, Fairrington told members that the church is on a mission to combat the state’s order to prevent gatherings in houses of worship. Fairrington declared:

Here we are in this moment right now, and I believe that God is giving this church in this moment a greater anointing than we have ever had before. I believe that God is giving us an apostolic influence in this region. … I believe our call is to get the church ready for an outpouring, to get the church ready for an awakening. But God is giving us right now in this moment a rude awakening before he gives us the great awakening, and for some reason God is using Destiny as a hub.

“It’s awesome to be outdoors worshiping with you,” he added. “It’s also awesome to be indoors worshiping together and all of you online. We have gotten letters all week, emails, encouraging us all around our nation, and I know there are people watching all around the world.”

New York Readying Release of More Convicted Cop Killers This Year

The New York state parole board, nearly all appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), is readying the release of two more felons convicted of murdering police officers, police union officials say.

Officials with the New York City Police Benevolent Association (NYCPBA) say the families of slain New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers Michael Russell and Robert Sorrentino have been notified by state officials that the convicted killers charged with their loved ones’ murders are “being freed in the coming weeks.”

The two convicts are Russell Carroll and Sergio Voii.

Carroll has been in New York state custody since 1982, after he murdered Sorrentino on April 10, 1980, during a burglary chase. He was convicted of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Sorrentino’s sister Edna Doyle said in a statement:

After going through the agony of nine parole hearings over the years, we now have to learn this. I guess they feel that our suffering is over. But we think of Bob every day. There will be no parole for him — and no relief for his family.

Voii was convicted in 1982 after he murdered Russell on August 2, 1979. At the time, Voii walked onto a field where community members and local off-duty police officers were playing a baseball game. Voii shot and killed businessman Edward Brugman and Russell.

Voii was subsequently convicted of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

At the time of his murder, Russell was 30-years-old, married, and father to a three-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy.

Russell’s widow, Grace, said in a statement:

I just don’t understand it. How is it that someone can be heartless enough to murder two unarmed people and then later be able to go back into society and resume a life of freedom, a life he callously took from two others? What’s the rationale? Where is the justice?

The release of Carroll and Voii will mark the 13th and 14th time that the New York state parole board has released convicted cop killers.

Since 2017, twelve have been freed from prison:

John Ruzas – RELEASED 12/18/17

Killer of Trooper Emerson Dillon

Herman Bell – RELEASED 4/27/18

Killer of P.O. Joseph Piagentini & P.O. Waverly Jones

Carlos Flores – RELEASED 4/27/18

Killer of P.O. Robert Walsh

Robert Hayes – RELEASED 7/24/18

Killer of P.O. Sidney Thompson

Demetrius Bennet – RELEASED 10/24/18

Killer of P.O. Ray Cannon

Judith Clark – RELEASED 5/15/19

Killer of Sgt. Edward O’Grady, P.O. Waverly Brown & Peter Paige

Larry Johnson – RELEASED 5/15/19

Killer of P.O. Anthony Abruzzo

Betsy Ramos – RELEASED 12/10/19

Killer of P.O. Anthony Mosomillo

Ernest Alston – RELEASED 12/26/19

Killer of P.O. Melvin Hopkins

Orlando Puente – RELEASED 1/6/20

Killer of Lt. Jan Brinkers

Steven Chirse – RELEASED 4/21/20

Killer of P.O. Angelo Brown

Karl Dean – RELEASED 5/21/20

Killer of Det. Joseph Taylor

The releases will come as New York City crime skyrockets. Over the last month, shootings have increased by more than 210 percent compared to the same time last year. Likewise, murders are up nearly eight percent in the last month and 23 percent year-to-date.

The jump in violent crime has occurred while Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Council seek to reduce the power of the NYPD. Most significantly, the agency disbanded its anti-crime unit that helped keep illegal firearms and violent career criminals off the streets. The decision has been called the “demise” of New York City.

Bill Barr’s CIA Resume: Cover-Ups, Covert Operations, and Pardons

“I started off in Washington at the Central Intelligence Agency and went to law school at night while I was working at CIA,” recalled William Barr in a 2001 oral history for the University of Virginia.

The new Attorney General, approved by the Senate on Thursday, has what Trump might call “deep state” credentials.

Barr comes to the job as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer at a pressure-packed moment. Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller has begun to disclose “the heart” of his case against President Trump’s campaign entourage: the interactions of his campaign manager Paul Manafort and Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian trained as a translator the Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU.

Not only is Barr now Mueller’s boss, he is also in charge of the FBI, where deputy director Andrew McCabe and other senior officials contemplated the possibility that the president of the United States was–and perhaps is–an agent of a foreign power..

To this subterranean power struggle, Barr brings a key asset: formative CIA experience.

Barr came to Langley in 1973. He was a 23 year graduate of Columbia with a masters in Chinese studies His resume shows he toiled at the agency by day and attended George Washington University law school at night. The Watergate scandal was ravaging the agency’s reputation and bringing down president Richard Nixon.

Barr spent four formative years working in the Intelligence directorate and the Office of Legislative Counsel. He even made the acquaintance of CIA director George H.W. Bush. In 1977 Barr moved on to a prestigious clerkship for a federal judge and then a series of jobs in private practice and the Justice Department. In 1991, Bush, who had since been elected president, appointed Barr to be attorney general.

Attorney General William Barr in 1991 (Credit: Justice Department)

At age 41, Barr was one of the younger men ever to hold that office. He left after one year and went on to a long career in corporate law and public service. Barr now returns to his old job at the behest of a besieged president under investigation for his dealings with Russian state agents.

Will Barr protect the investigation of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller? Or will he act on a tightly argued memo in which he claimed Mueller has already exceeded his authority?

A close examination of Barr’s legal career indicates a high tolerance for presidentially sanctioned law-breaking.

In his first turn as attorney general in 1991, Barr handled three legal issues of deep concern to the CIA. He helped resolve all three issues favorably for the agency’s leaders and the president.

Barr’s decisions, it is worth remembering today, were unfavorable to law enforcement, Congress, and the voters.

Bank of Fear

The first deep state fiasco handled by Attorney General Barr was the mother of all scandals, known by the sibilant initials, BCCI.

The Bank of Credit and Commerce International was a global institution, which deputy CIA director Robert Gates described, slightly more accurately, as “the Bank of Crooks and Criminals.” Spy novelist David Ignatius dubbed it “The Bank of Fear.”

US Attorney John Durham Is “In Negotiations with Some People on Guilty Pleas” in Russia Collusion Scandal

Joe diGenova says US Attorney John Durham is working guilty pleas with various Deep State actors involved in the Trump coup attempt.

Former US Attorney Joe diGenova was on the radio earlier today with Mornings with the Mall as part of his weekly interview. At the beginning of discussion diGenova discussed the John Durham investigation after the hosts shared an audio of DOJ spokesman Kerri Kupec that aired last week. Here is the piece discussed with Bill Hemmer from FOX that diGenova was and the listeners heard:

Hemmer: “John Durham, when will there be news on that?”

Kupec: “Well, we hope to see a report by the end of the summer. Obviously, this is a criminal investigation. The goal is not a report, it’s a criminal investigation. But certainly there is a story to be told there. The American people deserve resolution and frankly justice deserves resolution…”

Hemmer: “Okay but you say…”

Kupec: “…Justice needs to be restored. And that report I think is going to be really pivotal to uh, the restoration of that one-tiered system of justice.

Hemmer: “By the end of the…”

Kupec: “…People need to see what was going on.”

Joe diGenova then dropped some huge news regarding the Durham investigation:

DiGenova: I’m all for it. I hope they [Durham] issue the report as soon as possible and that criminal charges occur thereafter. I’m fascinated by the sequence but I’m delighted with what’s happening.

When the interviewer suggested that the report and the indictments might happen at the same time, diGenova replied:

DiGenova: Of course, yes, that’s exactly what could happen. You got it right Vince [Coglianese]. I suspected all along that Durham was going to do his best to get something done by September. Actually, I suspected it would be June, indeed I knew that that was the time table but the COVID-19 virus put off some grand jury appearances.

And I do know that they are in negotiations with some people for some guilty pleas. So it may very well be that some guilty pleas occur initially at the same time that the report is issued. They may piggyback those together simultaneously.

diGenova went on to say that John Brennan, Obama’s former CIA Director, was probably never going to be interviewed in front of a grand jury as he would likely plead the fifth.

This is big news and time will tell but this is very encouraging that there may be justice soon.

Don’t Let “Anti-Vaxxers” See This Study!

A new study highlights why a growing number of parents are skeptical about the safety of the coming COVID-19 vaccine, and vaccines in general.

In recent months the mainstream corporate media has begun telegraphing their intent to divide the American population between those who believe in bodily autonomy and health freedom, and those who support government mandated vaccinations. This divide is apparently beginning to widen as the reality of a rushed vaccine for COVID-19 draws near.

Despite the continued attacks on anyone who questions or challenges the assumed safety of vaccines, evidence continues to emerge that vaccines are not safe for all people, in all situations. In a groundbreaking new study published in The Lancet on July 6, researchers call for updating the vaccine paradigm. In the study, Vaccinology: time to change the paradigm?, researchers write:

The existing vaccine paradigm assumes that vaccines only protect against the target infection, that effective vaccines reduce mortality corresponding to the target infection’s share of total mortality, and that the effects of vaccines are similar for males and females. However, epidemiological vaccine research has generated observations that contradict these assumptions and suggest that vaccines have important non-specific effects on overall health in populations.

The researchers go on to discuss contradictions within the existing vaccine research and propose six emerging principles they believe might explain the contradictions. While it’s important to note that, overall, the paper details the benefits of vaccines — including a decrease in mortality — the most controversial aspects of the paper deals with the non-specific effects (NSE) of vaccines. Some of the non-specific effects (NSE) include “increased all-cause mortality in females.” All-cause mortality is generally defined as “all of the deaths that occur in a population, regardless of the cause.” It is measured in clinical trials and used as an indicator of the safety or hazard of an intervention.

The researchers start by outlining various assumptions within vaccine research, noting apparent contradictions to these assumptions, and then proposing a new paradigm to resolve the contradictions. For example, they write, “because of the beneficial effects of standard measles vaccine, expectations were high when a live high-titre (concentration) measles vaccine was introduced and administered to children aged 4–5 months in Africa in the 1980s.” Despite the vaccine protecting against measles, they note that long-term follow-up Random Control Trials (RCTs) in Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and The Gambia showed that girls who received the vaccine at 4–5 months of age, had two-times higher all-cause mortality than girls in the control group who received the standard measles vaccine at 9–10 months of age.

The researchers also acknowledged that in 1992, when the results were replicated in Haiti, the World Health Organization withdrew the vaccine. “This contradicted the idea that all protective vaccines have beneficial effects and that the effects are similar for boys and girls,” the study states.
