US Pays $1.95 Billion For Up To 600 Million Coronavirus Vaccine Doses
The U.S. government paid nearly $2 billion to Pfizer and BioNTech on Wednesday for up to 600 million doses of their vaccine that is set to enter phase 3 trials soon.
Americans would receive the vaccine, which could be ready by early 2021, for free, according to the companies’ press release.
The federal government has made similar deals with other pharmaceutical companies as part of Operation Warp Speed to ensure that doses are ready once a vaccine receives approval.
The federal government pledged $1.95 billion for an order of up to 600 million doses of a coronavirus vaccine, which is set to enter key large-scale trials in the coming weeks.
American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and German partner BioNTech announced the deal in a press release Wednesday. The companies are on track to produce 100 million doses by the end of the year and potentially 1.3 billion doses by 2022.

Yale epidemiology professor Dr. Harvey Risch told Fox News‘s “Ingraham Angle” that he thinks hydroxychloroquine could save 75,000 to 100,000 lives if widely used to treat COVID-19, and that it’s unfortunate that a “propaganda war” has been waged on the commonly prescribed drug which is not based on “medical facts.”
“There are many doctors that I’ve gotten hostile remarks about saying that all the evidence is bad for it and, in fact, that is not true at all,” Risch said on Monday, adding that he believes the drug should be used as a prophylactic for front-line healthcare workers, as has been done in India.

Five killed, eight injured in distribution center fire [PHOTOS]
A fire broke out in a distribution center in Yongin, south of Seoul, leaving five people dead, the National Fire Agency said Tuesday.
The fire started at 8:29 a.m. at the SLC Distribution Center in the city. Firefighters arrived at the scene 10 minutes later to put out the fire.
A total of 69 workers were working at the center and most of them were on the basement level four at the time of the fire. Among them, 64 have been evacuated, of which eight one in critical condition were injured. The rest suffered minor injuries.
All of the victims were found on the basement level four, where, according to witnesses, a fire started after an explosion in a freight truck, which was loading frozen processed foods.

GM Korea CEO indicted for violating labor law
Prosecutors indicted GM Korea CEO Kaher Kazem, Tuesday, for violating the Labor Law, a blow to Korea's third largest automobile manufacturer which has been struggling financially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The prosecution also indicted four other senior managers whose identities were not immediately made public.
"Between Sept. 1, 2017 and Dec. 31, 2019, GM Korea hired 1,719 local temporary workers through 24 unauthorized human resources agencies and put them to work making automobile frames, painting and assembling parts which was illegal," the prosecution said in a statement issued the same day.
