>I can find just as many studies that support masks working or cutting probabilities as you can find studies supporting they don't work.

Yes - but who is conducting the studies? An unbiased, scientifically reputable group or a DS fake science entity?

It's terrible to think that top scientific circles have been infiltrated but seeing Lancet comp'd was the last straw for me. If they've gotten to Lancet, they got most of the journals along the way.

Not just medicine, either. Friend changed his grad school program emphasis in scientific psych after hearing his chair of his specialty advocate suppressing data on male v female responses for political reasons.

That was 1990. Whaddya think they're doing now??

empathize with your situation anon. but arguing scientific facts does not mix well with talking about our worry re beloved relatives who we want to protect.

in the latter case, many people will bend over backwards "just in case" whether that is helpful or not from an objective pov.

to be honest, i do not think it at all likely that this scenario would be likely to happen - and if it did, that cv-19 would be communicated. but more fundamentally, most people i encounter go WELL out of their way when near obviously vulnerable individuals - and would likely try to avoid being in a small elevator with such a person. Would take the stairs or wait for another elevator. People around where i live are acutely sensitive to social distancing at this point.

The problem with the "just in case" strategy is that it requires that a large majority of people bend over backwards ( and now over a prolonged period of time) to meet the needs of those who have special needs.

What society can continue to function very long in this way?

What are the secondary effects?

What happens to a culture that acts based on half-truths bolstered by fears of the unknown?

God bless your mom anon.

I hope you find the right path thru this for both of you.
