The US armed soldiers in Afghanistan when they were at war with Russia in the 1980’s. Bin Ladin was once an ally. That part is no secret but it has been memory holed.
There’s even a movie about the US senator who went to Afghanistan (not No-name) back in the 80s to meet and work with the pre-Taliban: “Charlie Wilson's War”

I’m just here to educate. A lot of history has been memory holed and many here aren’t old enough to remember it.
