Watch AT&T’s CEO give a forceful defense of Black Lives Matter
September 30, 2016 at 9:20 a.m. CDT
"Tolerance is for cowards."
That's just a slice of the blunt talk that AT&T chief executive Randall Stephenson gave to company employees last week as Charlotte erupted into protests over the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.
Speaking to a crowd of several hundred last Friday, Stephenson's frankness underscored a sense of personal alarm over the spread of racially charged violence in the United States. Spurred on by events, he spoke urgently about the need for difficult conversations about race — and in so doing became one of the most outspoken corporate leaders on the Black Lives Matter movement.

Iran's purported US$400 billion 'secret deal' with China needs to be viewed in context: Experts
EIJING - Against a backdrop of worsening bilateral relations with the United States, news emerged earlier this month of a purported secret deal between China and Iran that would offer some US$400 billion (S$555 billion) of Chinese investments in the Islamic Republic over 25 years.
While it sparked concerns that the deal could re-calibrate geopolitics and pose a potential strategic challenge to the US, analysts say this is essentially the fleshing out of a prior agreement from 2016, and needs to should be viewed as Teheran floating a trial balloon.

Vatican denies it intervened on exhumation of former Spanish dictator, Francisco Franco
ROSARIO, Argentina – Though generally refraining from denying public statements from global leaders, the Vatican on Tuesday publicly refuted the Spanish prime minister’s claim Pope Francis had helped him with the exhumation of the remains of the late head of state, General Francisco Franco.
The Vatican statement came several weeks after the head of the Spanish government, Socialist Alberto Sanchez on July 8 told the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, that the Argentine pontiff had helped him on the matters of Franco’s remains, an issue that has long divided Spain.
Franco ruled Spain for nearly four decades following the end of the country’s civil war – with the help of Benito Mussolini’s fascist Italy and Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany – in 1939.
Despite the aid he received from the Axis powers, Spain remained neutral in World War 2, allowing Franco to stay in power after war’s end until his death in 1975.
