Gold futures settle at their highest on record
Gold futures on Friday ended at their highest settlement on record, near $2,000 an ounce.
This was approximately 27 minutes ago for the settlement price.Long term, with the macro backdrop currently "very uncertain" and the "unprecedented stimulus measures and near record-low interest rates, the gold rally should be sustainable for months and likely quarters to come," Tyler Richey, co-editor at Sevens Report Research, told MarketWatch. August gold GCQ20, 0.39% rose $7.50, or 0.4%, to settle at $1,897.50 an ounce, topping the previous record settlement of $1,891.90 from Aug. 22, 2011, based on records going back to November 1984, according to Dow Jones Market Data. On an intraday basis, prices touched $1,904.60. The record intraday level stands at $1,923.70 an ounce from Sept. 6, 2011.
