The great irony of the so called “scientific revolution” that came with the rise of the Copernican Principle is that is a modern myth. Science arose from theology of the first 3 centuries, specifically a branch known as “negative theology.”
We never accept our theories (“theater of the mind”) as Reality itself because in theological terms it would be considered “idolatry”. We must always be open and have a humble recognition that there is value in knowledge that transcends our current understand of reality. Plotinus stated it the most concisely when he wrote, “we can only say what is not, for what is we can not say.” This is the foundation of the scientific method when we say we can never prove anything 100%, we are only permitted to accept or reject our null hypotheses.
