Chinese separatists backed by former US presidential adviser Steve Bannon, a fugitive Chinese billionaire and one of China's most famous football players, will gather for the first time in Australia on Monday, to capitalise on deepening tensions between Australia and the Chinese Communist Party.
Bannon – US President Donald Trump's former chief strategist – was recruited in 2018 by exiled Chinese businessman Guo Wengui, who made his fortune in real estate development. Guo claims to have invested $US100 million ($140 million) in investigating alleged abuses of power by people at the highest levels of the Chinese Communist Party and the establishment of the pro-democracy movement under the banner of the New Federal State of China.
The movement operates under the Himalaya Australia banner in Sydney and Melbourne and will meet for the first time on Monday outside the Chinese consulate.
