Russian AF RA85155 Tupolev Tu-154M from St. Petersburg to Moscow, Chkalovsky Airport

 

Chkalovsky Airport is a military airport base near Shchyolkovo, Moscow Oblast, Russia. It is located 31 km northeast of Moscow. Chkalovsky provides air support for Star City, Russia, Yuri Gagarin Cosmonauts Training Center, and other elements of the Soviet space program and Russian Federal Space Agency. It is also a major transport base, with the 8th Special Purpose Aviation Division (since 2009-10, the 6991st Air Base) operating the Antonov An-12, An-72, Tupolev Tu-154, Ilyushin Il-76, and Il-86VKP. Chkalovsky received USSR's first Il-76K for cosmonaut training on 23 July 1977. On the 27th of March 1968, Yuri Gagarin and Vladimir Seryogin died in a MiG-15UTI that set off from this base, it crashed near the town of Kirzhach. The airport name is also given as Chkalovskoye. The facility should not be confused with Kaliningrad Chkalovsk airfield or Omsk Chkalovsk airfield.

Coast Guard rescues one, continues search for survivors of capsized vessel

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico โ€“ Coast Guard surface and air rescue crews continued searching Thursday for possible survivors of a capsized migrant vessel that reportedly sank Monday in waters near Mona Island, Puerto Rico.

 

So far, one man, who claimed to be a Dominican Republic national, has been rescued, while 12 others reportedly remain missing.

 

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Juan were contacted via a VHF Channel 16 radio transmission at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday from the motor tanker Coral Energy, requesting search and rescue assistance in the area after the crew reportedly heard voices coming from the water, approximately 10 miles north of Mona Island.
