The deformation of the top seems to be a really bad indicator. I'm phonefagging now, but there are some YT vids on dam cavitation that are eye opening. Huge caverns open up. There's huge damage nobody can see, guaranteed.

I do too. It's all about the flow. The issue they had was that once they discovered the damage, how do they repair it and keep from over flowing. If the 3 gorges has been taking damage, and I figure all that deformation indicates it has, then they must try to repair that damage which means thay have to shut those tubes down + lower the rate.
Add more rain + 100MM people and they have a pretty big problem on their hands.
