I typically follow that with:
'The death rate is DECREASING! This is wonderful news! The virus is weakening. MORE people are exposed and LESS people are dying! Fantastic! Makes me happy! WooHoo!'
They typically give me a confused look at which point I explain I look for the actual data, which isn't easy to find, then offer to send this to them.
