Technological mechanisms exist that can subliminally influence people's ideas and emotions. Anyone within audio range of, e.g., a TV is potentially a target. Not going over the patents again at this time.

Yes cellphone too. We reviewed several patents that show plausibility and exact mechanisms and the neuroscience data. Read your brainwaves, upload to data center that has massive database of your brainwaves, decode brainwaves, amounts to reading your thoughts.
Subliminal frequencies in modulated TV signals or other EM transmissions that can induce sleep, excitement, anger, sexuality, etc. You don't have to be near or looking at the TV/display/monitor to be targed, just in the vicinity.
Patterns of EM or even heat, received on the skin, that induce a cascade of neurons to fire, signals that reach the brain and affect brain function…
The patents do not suggest who, if anyone, is using these techniques. But the techniques most certainly exist. I assume that if mechanisms exist, they are in use. At minimum, by advertisers to improve profits. Presumably the use is far more widespread than anyone would imagine.
