Remember when Senator Kamala Harris accused Joe Biden of supporting racial segregation and implied that she would have been forced to pick cotton in the fields of Berkeley, with her wealthy parents if Biden had gotten his way.

Good times.

Now Kamala is pretty much a lock for the Veep spot for Joe and she has an explanation.

When former Sen. Chris Dodd, a member of Joe Biden’s vice presidential search committee, recently asked Kamala Harris about her ambush on Biden in the first Democratic debate, Dodd was stunned by her response.

“She laughed and said, ‘that’s politics.’ She had no remorse,” Dodd told a longtime Biden supporter and donor, who relayed the exchange to POLITICO on condition of anonymity.

“Dodd felt it was a gimmick, that it was cheap,” the donor said. The person added that Dodd’s concerns about Harris were so deep that he's helped elevate California Rep. Karen Bass during the vetting process.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will not consider liability protections for businesses in the next stimulus package. During an interview Sunday, she said providing legal protections will allow businesses, hospitals and schools to remain unaccountable from protecting their workers from coronavirus.

“We’ve placed no responsibility on your employer to make that workplace safe and if you get sick, you have no recourse because we’ve given your employer protection,” Pelosi stated. “And if you don’t go to work because you’re afraid of being sick and you have that job opportunity, you don’t get unemployment insurance.”

Meanwhile, Senate Republicans have pushed for such protections for businesses with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell saying no relief bill would get through the Senate without them.

Some companies have expressed concern over the possibility of legal issues if employees contract the virus while at work and said liability protections will aid in efforts to reopen the economy.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) recently slammed the House speaker for wanting to keep America shut down. He made the remarks during an interview Sunday while discussing the highly debated coronavirus relief bill.

The co-owners of Atilis Gym in Bellmawr, New Jersey were arrested Monday after numerous instances of the business defying a state order that mandated the gym’s closure.

Frank Trumbetti, 51, and Ian Smith, 33, were each charged with contempt, obstruction and violating a disaster control act, according to ABC 6. The pair, which has since been released from jail, was notorious for defying Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s order to close fitness facilities amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A judge ruled Friday that Atilis was to be closed, but Smith, on the same day as the ruling, said the gym will remain open. He also insisted he will “not back down under any circumstances” in a Facebook post, according to the local outlet.

“[We are] disappointed that this motion for contempt was granted, however we do respect the judge’s decision and will be taking all necessary steps to see if there is an issue of appeal here,” the duo’s lawyer Christopher Arzberger told ABC 6. Trumbetti and Smith’s battle with the state has been ongoing since May 20 when the gym received a citation for remaining open.

“I will not close my doors again unless I’m behind bars,” Trumbetti yelled to supporters in May, according to a previous ABC 6 report. “And I guarantee you this door will be open every single day.”

Police arrived at the gym on May 18 to notify the owners that they were in violation of the governor’s order, but merely issued a warning and said “have a nice day.”

New Jersey gyms may only operate if they convert their operations to outdoors, according to the state’s official webpage. Trumbetti and Smith instituted capacity policies, took the temperatures of clients and mandated masks in their facility, but an arrest came nonetheless, as the pair was still operating indoors, according to ABC 6.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Multiple Philadelphia police cars were set on fire across the city overnight. Now investigators are trying to figure out who set fires to at least four patrol vehicles.

The first incident was reported around 1:40 a.m. Monday at 11th and Vine Streets in Chinatown, which is right outside of the 6th District Police Headquarters. By mid-morning police were taping off the area and called it a crime scene.

The next call was minutes later at 7th and Chestnut Streets in Old City, which is also in the 6th District. Police say someone there tried to set a police van on fire.

The most significant damage occurred in the 18th District at 39th and Chestnut Streets in University City, around 2:30 a.m. Severe damage was visible to the front of the car and the windshield.

The final call to come in was at 39th Street and Lancaster Avenue, also in University City. The damage to that vehicle is minor.

The suspect in the fires at 39th Street and Lancaster Avenue and 39th and Chestnut Streets is described as a white male wearing a flannel shirt and backpack. Police say he was seen on surveillance cameras fleeing the scenes on a white Cannondale bike.

All four fires were set within an hour of each other.
