IG report shows how VA doctor's misconduct, patient abuse led to veteran's suicide

WASHINGTON — A veteran battling opioid withdrawal and suicidal thoughts begged to stay at the Washington veterans hospital one night in early 2019. Instead, a doctor had the veteran escorted out by police and said the patient could “go shoot [themself]. I do not care.”

Six days later, the veteran died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Toxic chemicals found in air sampling from Bohomme Richard fire

Toxic chemicals were present in the smoke from the amphibious assault ship Bonhamme Richard fire in San Diego, according to a new report.

The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District determined the smoke contained substances including benzene, chloromethane and acetonitrile after conducting an air sampling, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. However, the fire primarily emitted pollutants caused from normal activities like driving a car.

Magnitude 4.1 quake jolts Eastern Samar

MANILA - A magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit Eastern Samar early Wednesday, Phivolcs said.

The tremor struck 17 kilometers southwest of Maydolong town at 2:34 a.m., state seismologists said.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 32 kilometers, according to Phivolcs. Instrumental Intensity I was reported in Palo town, Leyte.The tremor was not expected to cause damage and aftershocks.
