Michael Flynn case gets new life as court agrees to hear appeal of dismissal
It ain’t over for Michael Flynn just yet.
A federal court announced Thursday it will hear an appeal of the dismissal of Flynn’s conviction for lying to agents about his conversations with Russian envoys during President Trump’s transition.
The entire Washington D.C. circuit court will hear arguments Aug. 11 over Judge Emmet Sullivan’s request to continue the case even after prosecutors sought to dismiss the case.
A three-judge panel had previously ruled in Flynn’s favor and ordered Sullivan to dismiss the case even though Flynn had already pleaded guilty and was awaiting sentencing.
Sullivan refused to accept the unusual decision by federal prosecutors to dismiss the Flynn case and instead planned to launch a probe into their motives.
President Trump has repeatedly claimed Flynn was railroaded, leading to suspicions of political interference in the prosecution.
