I'm not even kidding you. His exercise of self-control over the years impresses the hell out of me.

2 things:

  1. If I was as smart and astute as Bill Hicks at 32, I would probably have had pancreatic and liver cancer at the same time. Not even fucking kidding.

  2. Hicks had a fair amount of opinions on religion, too. Specifically Christianity.

Look, I know there's a bunch of games being played (by everyone) in trying to get people to wake up, but the funny stuff really throws people for a loop, sometimes. I default to Q's quote that seems to be the most straightforward and easily digestible one out of nearly 5000 drops to date:

The choice [of information] has always been yours.

"Free thought" is a philosophical viewpoint which holds that positions regarding truth should be formed on the basis of logic, reason, and empiricism, rather than authority, tradition, revelation, or dogma.

Lots of people, out there, want you to believe lots of different things. Everyone has the right to choose what they want to believe. It doesn't make them anymore right than you are to believe what you believe. Just realize that there's a measurable difference between that which can be proven and that which is accepted on the basis of pure belief.

That's a big problem for churches when people know which questions to ask.
