New chink in Big Tech's armor! Payment handlers that ban creators (for ideological reasons, SJW social credits, wokeness, out of sheer meanness, etc.) can lead to huge legal problems, at least in California because disrupting the financial relationship between two people can be sent to arbitration! Patreon is the defendant in this case, but it could apply to others like PayPal, MasterCard, YouTube, etc.

In addition to the above actions, could lawsuits be filed on the basis of tortious interference (i.e., interfering in the financial relationship between two people by banning somebody for political statements or other reasons)?

To make a long story short, Patreon banned Owen Benjamin, several former patrons filed for arbitration under terms of service, Patreon now obligated to pay in advance all the arbitration fees (millions of $), Patreon moves for an injunction to shut down the arbitrations, judge rules against Patreon, and Patreon will now be forced to arbitrate 100+ claims, and pay up front fees of up to $10,000 per arbitration.

Yet another wrinkle in the case: Patreon, after seeing a flood of arbitration, changed its terms of service on 3 Jan 2020 to use lawsuits instead of arbitration and then tried to impose the lawsuit method on people who already filed for arbitration. Judge said Not No, but Hell No!

Sargon of Akkad could end Patreon if he had his followers file actions similar to the one Owen Benjamin's fans did.

That's it. That would be the end of Patreon.

"Tortious interference with business relationships occurs where the tortfeasor intentionally acts to prevent someone from successfully establishing or maintaining business relationships with others. This tort may occur when one party knowingly takes an action that causes a second party not to enter into a business relationship with a third party that otherwise would probably have occurred."
