The plot thusfar has centered around recovering the Eden's Zero and the Four Shining Stars (basically four generals) of the ship before tracking down a galactic criminal known as Drakken Joe - who uses alchemy to steal the life force of citizens living in his city to keep him alive. Turns out the head of their guild is also part of the series equivalent of the CIA and has been trying to infiltrate and destroy Drakken Joe for some time. Drakken Joe, himself, wanted the ability CAT Leaper, which is a time altering ability, as a more permanent solution to his age problem.
Well, the first encounter fails miserably. Everyone is imprisoned by him or dies.
The redo of that encounter goes much better, but is technically a different world. I can only imagine that will come back into play at some point, as we've already been introduced to one form of a god - a character outside of time - XiaoMei - the narrator forming the fourth wall. The other godlike entity is "mother" - a being, structure, or concept in distant space which grants the desire of those who find it. A sort of galactic layline if you're familiar with Outlaw Star (which is also quite astute and relevant to our times, as POTUS may as well be Gene Starwind).
It's also worth noting that the Eden's Zero is shaped similar to a dragon and was originally built by an android who was called the Demon King - who found the main character on his own quest to see Mother and brought him back to a planet of machines to be raised. So the Demon King's Four Shining Stars are assisting the Galactic Intelligence Agency in taking down criminal organizations… Albeit somewhat unwittingly at times. They just are on an adventure.
