OMG now I can't unsee it. Trim isn't really that hard to do with a decent miter saw. I did my entire basement with 0 experience and a decent nail gun and caulk. Caulk really is a trim carpenter's friend.
Did you ever ask "Why?" to anything and get the 'I don't know the answer to why, just shut up and take my word for it already' type of response? That was all part of the indoctrination. Parents/grandparents with little to no knowledge, and carrying on because "got to pay the bills and put food on the table". Followed by "Sportsgame on tv! Time for relaxation!" Followed by "Go outside kid; go find something to do!" Followed by "You can't get a decent job unless you go to college like I didn't do, so you don't have a choice!" Followed by "I don't know, hun, <insert health problemjust happens to some." Followed by "Well, the good Lord works in mysterious ways."
