Republican Mike Garcia defeated Democratic state Assemblywoman Christy Smith in the special election for California's 25th congressional district.

Garcia will serve out of the rest of former Rep. Katie Hill's term in the 116th Congress and face a rematch in November for the regular general election to represent the seat in the 117th Congress.

After about 10 months in Congress, Hill, 32, resigned from the House after dozens of explicit photos of her were published on websites including the conservative blog RedState and the Daily Mail.

As a member of the Newhall School Board, Christy Smith voted to reduce the salaries of all district employees but then voted to increase her own taxpayer-funded pay.

Christy Smith voted to support a $21 billion dollar bailout for PG&E after they failed to properly inspect and maintain the equipment that ignited the November 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise. She supported the bailout of the energy giant even after their failures killed 85 people and destroyed over 18,000 structures.

While working families struggled to make ends meet, Christy Smith voted to give many illegal immigrants costly healthcare benefits — paid for with our taxpayer money. That means less money for the critical healthcare needs of Californians as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

People are cracking

Adam Zaborowski is accused of attempting to kill at least seven police officers last Friday because he is not “just not handling the pandemic well,” his lawyer, John Waldron, insisted over the weekend. The 35-year-old shot a Bethlehem Township clerk after being told he had to wear a mask inside the Cigars International store.

In response to the clerk’s command, Zaborowski grabbed two cigars without paying, hightailed it into the parking lot and then shot at the clerk. Fortunately, the clerk wasn’t wounded in the gunfire.

The following day, police showed up at Zaborowski’s home and he opened fire on at least seven police officers with an AK-47 and a semiautomatic handgun around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The incident resulted in Zaborowski being struck twice in the butt and leg. He was placed under arrest and is expected to recover from his injuries.

These people are fuckin nuts

https://www.leftvoice.org/dont-settle-for-biden-fight-for-socialism

In the past few weeks, the “Settle for Biden” social media campaign has taken the internet by storm. The campaign features primarily instagram and twitter posts along the lines of one that says “If Biden died, I wouldn’t shed a tear. But I will sure as hell vote for him if it means getting rid of Trump.” Other posts include images of Noam Chomsky and Angela Davis as well as one with the New York Times headline “I believe Tara Reade. I’m voting for Joe Biden anyway.” The thesis of all of these posts is clear: Biden is no saint but he is “angelic compared to Trump” so we should all vote for him to get Trump out.

Initially there was rampant speculation that the campaign was a joke but, surprisingly, it is a real organization made up “primarily of former Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren supporters” who “firmly believe that Donald Trump is an existential threat to the future of our people, our nation, and our planet. [They] don’t like all of Joe Biden’s policies but [they] recognize that he is running on the most progressive platform in American history and that not supporting him would literally endanger the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans.”
