36-year-old charged with sexual torture of a child in Trussville and Jefferson County

A Bessemer man is facing multiple charges of sexual torture of a child.

 

Both the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Trussville police have obtained warrants against Christopher Deward James. The 36-year-old is charged with three counts of sexual torture and one count of sex abuse of a child under the age of 12.

 

According to charging documents, the same young girl is the victim in the four alleged crimes. The sheriff’s office charged him for incidents that happened several years ago, while Trussville police charged him for crimes that happened on April 19 and Dec. 31, 2019.

ALBANY — Survivors of childhood sexual assault will have another 12 months to file civil suits against their alleged abuser — no matter how long ago the incident occurred.

 

Gov. Cuomo on Monday signed an extension of part of the Child Victims Act providing a “look back” window for victims to file lawsuits beyond statue of limitations restrictions.
