I've read many books lately that mirror current events.

One short story in a book pointed out a very scary possibility that mirrors events. This is not a direct quote but a breakdown of authors words.

With the exposure of the criminal organizations control of corporations and the financial system, the collapse of the system and Economic Winter that followed the brief war and destruction of the controllers, many died and it was years before the people of the World rebounded but with free thinking and creativity of humanity let loose, hundreds of years of prosperity followed.

Much more in the story, like Greenies and religious fanatics were the controllers.
