Minneapolis Fed chief pushing for 'hard' nationwide shutdown lasting 4 to 6 weeks

Neel Kashkari says America can afford to keep paying unemployment benefits until recovery occurs

Neel Kashkari, president of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank, is calling for America to go into a "hard" shutdown for at least a month, saying it is necessary to stop the spread of COVID-19 and arguing that the U.S. government can afford it.

Kashkari made his case for shutting down during an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday, saying, "If we were to lock down really hard — I hate to even suggest it, people will be frustrated by it — but if we were to lock down hard for a month or six weeks, we could get the case count down so that our testing and our contact tracing was actually enough to control it."

"If we don't do that," Kashkari continued, "and we just have this raging virus spreading throughout the country with flare-ups and local lockdowns for the next year or two — which is entirely possible — we're going to see many, many more business bankruptcies…and that's going to take a lot of time to recover from to rebuild those businesses and then to bring workers back in."'

He argued, "That's going to be a much slower recovery for all of us."

The Minneapolis fed chief also said that despite 20 million Americans being out of work due to the coronavirus crisis, the one bright spot he sees is that the savings rate has gone up among those who do still have an income. He says that means the debt incurred from the possible continuation of elevated unemployment benefits does not concern him.

"Those of us who are fortunate enough to still have our jobs, we're saving a lot more money because we're not going to restaurants or movie theaters or vacations," Kashkari said. "That actually means we have a lot more resources as a country to support those who have been laid off."

He explained, "While historically we would worry about racking up too much debt, we're generating this savings ourselves. That means Congress has the resources to support those who are most hurting."

Kashkari reiterated his position on Monday, arguing on Twitter, "Want to open schools? Do a hard lockdown now for 6 weeks to get the virus under control then open schools late September. I haven't heard any other strategy to reopen safely that sounds remotely plausible given rampant spread in many areas."

He shared a Wall Street Journal op-ed to bolster his argument.

Garrison: The Revenge Of "Real Money" Or "Cashless Enslavement Of Humanity"?

Just over 10 years ago I drew several pro-silver cartoons. One of them showed a giant, fast-moving silver coin cutting the JP Morgan ‘paper tiger’ in half. For years, JPM had shorted silver and has been doing it illegally and collusively. I knew this, but I went ‘all in’ on silver anyway because I thought JPM would have to cover and spark a massive short squeeze. I was convinced my long positions would make me a fortune. Instead JPM drove the price of silver down from almost $50 early in 2011 all the way down to $13 just a few years later. Paper covered rock. Needless to say, I learned a hard lesson about putting all my eggs in a silver basket.

Now silver is back up over $20 and some are predicting much higher prices on the horizon, just like they said over 10 years ago. Gold is also close to making ‘all-time highs,’ which is incorrect because inflation needs to be factored into such a high due to years of incessant dollar printing. Silver and gold have broken out higher due to a weaker dollar and some experts such as Peter Schiff claim ‘King Dollar’ will die due to over-printing.

I have my doubts.

The dollar is still greatly desired by America’s poor and the middle classes, whose wages have not risen much in nearly 30 years. They are not getting more dollars like citizens did in Weimar Germany. You won’t see dollars in wheelbarrows any time soon. Most of the Federal Reserve’s dollar printing goes directly to a handful of fantastically wealthy people at the top of the pyramid.

Many of them own the Federal Reserve. The Fed is propping up a market that is mostly owned by the top.

We The People are not receiving what the Fed is buying whether it is treasuries, corporate bonds, or ETFs, but we are forced to pay for it. Citizens must cough up more taxes to pay the interest on the absurdly high debt in order to make sure the fabulously rich get fabulously richer.

Until those at the very top start giving their money away to the rest of the country, the dollar will be fine.

No, I’m not advocating class warfare and it’s not socialism. What we’re seeing is not capitalism.

The top 1 percent is getting their money by ill-gotten means. It’s fascism when their Fed gets to pick and choose which globalist company or sector to prop up.

I took some time off in Idaho last week and I visited one of my favorite places on Earth: Wallace. It’s a mining town in northern Idaho. It’s just off I-90 and has a long, storied history. It’s also known as the center of the universe and it is—at least when it comes to silver. There are many silver mines in the surrounding area, also known as ‘The Silver Valley.’ A total of 1.2 billion ounces of silver came out of those mines over the years and there’s still plenty of silver left.

Manhattan D.A. Investigating Trump for ‘Possible Fraud’ Based on Media Reports

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. told a federal court Monday that his office was pursuing a broad inquiry into possible fraud by President Donald Trump and his private businesses, based on reports that had appeared in the media.

The New York Times reported:

The Manhattan district attorney’s office suggested on Monday that it has been investigating President Trump and his company for possible bank and insurance fraud, a significantly broader inquiry than the prosecutors have acknowledged in the past.

The suggestion by the office of the district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., came in a new federal court filing arguing that Mr. Trump’s accountants should have to comply with a subpoena seeking eight years of his personal and corporate tax returns. Mr. Trump had asked a judge to declare the subpoena invalid.

In the new filing, the prosecutors did not directly identify the subject of their inquiry. But they said that “undisputed” assertions in earlier court papers and several news reports about Mr. Trump’s business practices showed that the office had a wide legal basis for the subpoena.

They cited newspaper investigations that concluded the president may have illegally inflated his net worth and the value of his properties to lenders and insurers. They also included an article on the congressional testimony of his former lawyer and fixer, Michael D. Cohen, who told lawmakers last year that the president had committed insurance fraud. Lawyers for the president have denied wrongdoing.

The links above all refer to reporting by the New York Times, which apparently is the source for Vance’s claims of possible fraud.

Vance’s filing comes after the Supreme Court ruled in a pair of cases last month that the president could not demand that local prosecutors meet a heightened burden for an ordinary subpoena, but that Congress did not have the right to demand whatever documents it wanted of the president.

US Confirms American Company Has Signed Deal With 'Rebels' To Take Syria's Oil

For anyone who still actually thinks America's role in Syria was ever somehow about "protecting human rights" or "promoting democracy" — here's the latest out of Syria, which the Trump administration has since confirmed:

Syria’s foreign ministry said on Sunday that an American oil company had signed an agreement with Kurdish-led rebels who control northeastern oilfields in what it described as an illegal deal aimed at “stealing” Syria’s crude.

Oprah Hosts White Guilt Session: ‘Whiteness Gives You an Advantage No Matter What’

Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey declared in an episode of her eponymous series, The Oprah Conversation that “whiteness” and “white privilege” afford unspecified benefits to white people in the “caste system” of America.

In an episode entitled “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man: Part 1” — featuring former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho and drawing its name from Acho’s YouTube series of the same name — Oprah Winfrey invited several white people to discuss “racism,” “white privilege,” and “whiteness.” Oprah praised her white guests for accusing themselves of being “racist.”

Oprah said:

There are white people who are not as powerful as the system of white people — the caste system that’s been put in place — but they still, no matter where they are on the rung, or the ladder of success, they still have their whiteness.

[Whites have a] leg up. You still have your whiteness. That’s what the term “white privilege” is. It means that whiteness still gives you an advantage, no matter.

“It is the fundamental issue,” declared Oprah of racial assumptions.

Louisiana AG Jeff Landry Blasts Facebook Censorship of Breitbart in Letter to Zuckerberg

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry has written a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, blasting the Facebook CEO and his platform for censoring medical discussion around coronavirus, in particular the censoring of a viral Breitbart News video of a press conference with frontline doctors and a member of Congress discussing responses to the virus.

“It seems you and your team at Facebook choose to censor or misuse your algorithms to downplay voices on one side of the issues while failing to do so on the other,” said Landry.

“Recently, Breitbart News and others live-streamed a group of licensed American doctors who were sharing their professional medical opinions regarding COVID-19. Apparently, Facebook made a choice to limit their voices.”

The Louisiana attorney general went on to highlight Zuckerberg’s comments at the recent House Judiciary Committee hearing, where the Facebook CEO accused the doctors’ press conference of having the potential to “cause imminent risk of harm.”

Landry slams Zuckerberg for uncritically repeating information from the World Health Organization (WHO), despite the embattled organization’s well-documented track record of errors and mistakes about the pandemic.

https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2020/08/03/exclusive-louisiana-ag-jeff-landry-blasts-facebook-censorship-of-breitbart-in-letter-to-zuckerberg/

The Breitbart News video censored by Facebook was of a press conference of the organization America’s Frontline Doctors, hosted by the organization America’s Frontline Doctors, a group founded by Dr. Simone Gold, a board-certified physician and attorney and organized by the Tea Party Patriots.

A member of Congress, Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), also spoke at the event, meaning the social network censored a politician — something Zuckerberg has repeatedly promised not to do.

“In our free country, the American people deserve to hear all voices and stories so they can evaluate information and make decisions for themselves,” wrote Landry, who concluded his letter by calling on Zuckerberg to “set aside hysteria” and stop allowing “blatant political bias to scare doctors and their patients away from a potential lifesaving treatment.”

“You can give access to all the information available on this pandemic. You can allow users to make decisions for themselves.”

Judge Who Presided Over Deutsche Bank Case Related To Epstein, Tells Emotional Story About Her Son

A gunman killed the son of Federal Judge Esther Salas and the suspect who was dressed in a FedEx uniform during the attack; has prompted Judge Salas to call for increased security for judges and their families.

Judge Salas has presided over an ongoing lawsuit brought by Deutsche bank investors who claimed the company failed to monitor “high-risk” customers which included convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein who allegedly committed suicide while in prison.

Judge Salas expressed, “While my husband is still in the hospital recovering from his multiple surgeries, we are living every parent’s worst nightmare: Making preparations to bury our only child, Daniel. My family has experienced a pain that no one should ever have to endure. And I am here asking everyone to help me ensure that no one ever has to experience this kind of pain.”

She continued, “Two weeks ago, my life, as I knew it changed in an instant and my family will never be the same. A madman who I believe was targeting me because of my position as a federal judge came to my house. Our family had just finished a weekend celebration in honor of our son, Daniel Mark’s 20th birthday. Daniel always wanted to spend his birthdays with his dad and me, so he asked that we host a party for a few of his Catholic University of America friends.”

“Because of the pandemic, Mark and I, my husband and I, had some concerns. However, we thought we could adhere to safety guidelines and we agreed to allow his friends to come spend the weekend. The weekend was a glorious one. It was filled with love and laughter and smiles. As Daniel’s last friend departed on Sunday. We decided we’d give Daniel a pass on his usher duties.”

Judge Salas stated before the horrific moment,”When Mark and I returned from church, Daniel was upstairs sleeping. We decided to give him a little rest. But as the afternoon progressed, it was time to clean up from the weekend festivities. Daniel and I went downstairs to the basement and we were chatting, as we always do. And Daniel said, “Mom, let’s keep talking. I love talking to you, Mom.”

Why Israel Folau chose not to kneel for Black Lives Matter protest

It's the question that has perplexed the rugby league world for the past 48 hours - and Wide World of Sports has solved the mystery.

Why didn't Israel Folau take a knee with his Catalans teammates to support the 'Black Lives Matter' movement before last weekend's clash with St Helens in the long-awaited resumption of Super League in Britain?

Many pundits speculated it was just Folau being 'difficult' - as he has been for much of his career, most notably his homophobic rants on social media that saw him part ways with rugby union.

But the true reason comes back to Folau's fanatical religious beliefs.

"He will only kneel for one being - his god,"a Catalans insider told me.

"He obviously supports justice for black people, being of Islander background himself, but kneeling in protest goes against his beliefs."

Catalans coach Steve McNamara refused to reveal the reasons behind Folau's bizarre one-man stand.

"As a group of players and coaching staff, we spoke about it in depth and as a club we are completely against racism and all for equal opportunity," McNamara said afterwards.

Singapore to tag visitors with electronic monitoring devices to ensure Covid-19 quarantine compliance

New arrivals to Singapore won’t necessarily have to quarantine at a government facility during the pandemic - some, including residents, will receive an electronic monitoring device that will alert authorities if they leave home.

Singapore announced on Monday it will track incoming travelers coming from a select group of countries - including residents and citizens - with electronic monitoring devices, starting August 11.

Authorities framed the trackers as a positive for travelers, noting they would allow recipients to self-isolate at home instead of quarantining in a government facility. New arrivals will be ordered to activate the devices upon reaching home, at which point they are programmed to alert the authorities should the user try to leave or tamper with the device.

It’s not clear what kind of device the city-state plans to use, though the announcement hints at something quite a bit beefier than the slimline electronic wristbands Hong Kong deployed in March and South Korea has also adopted. Authorities hinted that recipients are supposed to receive and acknowledge notifications on the device itself, rather than on a smartphone app linked to the device as is the case in Seoul.

However, the city-state has sought to reassure recipients that the device will not store personal data and does not have the ability to record or store audio or video.

Singapore was one of the first places to adopt tech-enhanced contact-tracing to manage its Covid-19 outbreak, developing a Bluetooth-powered app called TraceTogether which - despite initial fanfare - reportedly failed to attract more than 25 percent of the population (and was quite useless for those without smartphones). Because the app was programmed before Google and Apple rolled out their contact-tracing platform, it doesn’t work well on iPhones and is a huge drain on battery life.

RIGGED: Justice Department Rebukes OIG Probe — Barr Clears FBI of Wrongdoing in 29 Controversial FISA Cases (Nothing to see here, folks — Move along)

(Nothing to see here, folks — Move along.)

Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers stated:

“The Department of Justice has completed its review of the 29 FISA applications that were the subject of preliminary findings by the DOJ Inspector General (OIG) in March 2020. We are pleased that our review of these applications concluded that all contained sufficient basis for probable cause and uncovered only two material errors, neither of which invalidated the authorizations granted by the FISA Court.

“These findings, together with the more than 40 corrective actions undertaken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Division, should instill confidence in the FBI’s use of FISA authorities.

“We would like to express our appreciation to the OIG for their focus on the Department’s use of its national security authority. We remain committed to improving the FISA process to ensure that we use these tools consistent with the law and our obligations to the FISA Court. The ability to surveil and to investigate using FISA authorities remains critical to confronting current national security threats, including election interference, Chinese espionage and terrorism.”

Background

In March 2020, the OIG issued a Memorandum regarding the preliminary findings from its audit of 29 historical FISA applications. The audit was designed to determine whether the contents of the FBI’s Woods files supported the factual statements in these applications.

The OIG found deficient documentation in these accuracy (i.e., Woods) files and potential errors. Specifically, the OIG found that FBI was unable to produce the Woods files for 4 of the 29 applications, and the OIG identified numerous apparent errors or inadequately supported facts in all 25 of the 29 applications for which Woods files could be produced.

The OIG did not determine whether any factual assertions in the applications were inaccurate, materially or otherwise. In addition, when the OIG found a fact unsupported by a document in the Woods file, the OIG did not give the FBI the opportunity to locate a supporting document for the fact outside the file.

The Department has reviewed the OIG’s preliminary findings for each application. Each of these applications was also subject to an independent accuracy review. The Department was able to resolve many of the potential issues identified by the OIG. The FBI was also able to compile Woods files for the 4 applications where an original Woods file could not be located, and the FBI was able in many instances to locate documentation to support a factual assertion either elsewhere in the Woods file or in other files available to the FBI.

Based on the Department’s findings, of the hundreds of pages of facts contained in the 29 applications audited by the OIG, the Department has identified only one material misstatement and one material omission, neither of which we assess to have invalidated the authorizations granted by the FISC. These findings have been provided to the FISA Court and were posted publicly today.
