I had a hippie biology teacher as a freshman in high school that recommended it. I wasn't fully awake yet. 9/11 happened my junior year, and by 2003/4ish a friend recommended the movie 9/11 Mysteries, which started my process of awakening. It's been a harsh, depressing 15 years or so, not gonna lie.
