iRespond, an international non-profit organization that is “dedicated to using biometrics to improve lives through digital identity,” has begun piloting a new biometric program for newborns among the predominately Karen refugee population along the Myanmar-Thailand border, a program it soon hopes to “quickly deploy” at a greater scale and make available to the general global population. The pilot program is being conducted as part of the controversial ID2020 alliance, backed by Microsoft, the GAVI vaccine alliance and the Rockefeller Foundation, and with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a non-profit organization deeply tied to the Western political elite and Wall Street with a controversial track record of silencing numerous sex abuse and fraud allegations.

The new program, an extension of iRespond’s “voluntary” biometric identification program in the Mae La refugee camp, “will create a record of a birth, attested by a trusted clinic, with a goal of changing the life trajectory for the participants.” Through the program, “a guardianship relationship between the newborn and the mother is established and linked to digital and high security physical identity documents.”

However, iRespond’s CEO, Scott Reid, told Biometric Update that these credentials do “not carry the same weight as a true birth certificate,” but asserts that the organization’s biometric “birth attestation” program “could leapfrog the traditional barriers to establishing identity.” Despite the fact that iRespond’s quasi-birth certificates would seemingly serve little purpose in areas where actual birth certificates are readily available, the organization notes that “once the pilot is completed, iRespond is ready to quickly deploy the solution at scale” for mass use around the globe. “Product development” on adapting their platform for newborns began earlier this year and Reid notes that having an iRespond-provided biometric “birth attestation” will enable “access to vital services such as healthcare, social protection, education and banking.”

The pilot program is being conducted at the Mae Tao clinic, which is largely funded by the CIA cut-out USAID as well as the governments of Germany and Taiwan, the Open Society Foundations and the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The IRC is very active in the day-to-day functions of the clinic (financed by a USAID-funded project) and it is also intimately involved in iRespond’s digital identity program, including its new pilot program for newborns and its earlier efforts to supply Mae La’s residents with biometric identity.

JBS Food Canada ULC, a Brooks, Alberta, Canada establishment, is recalling approximately 38,406 pounds of boneless beef head meat products that were not presented for import re-inspection into the United States.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 11126” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, for further distribution to retail locations.

The problem was discovered when FSIS determined through routine surveillance that the product had by-passed FSIS import reinspection.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

Protesters Sue Seattle Claiming Police Use of Force Amounts to a 'Protest Tax' Violating Civil Rights

Try this new narrative on for size: not only are the violent riots in cities like Seattle really just “peaceful protests,” but the “excessive” police response is also a form of invidious class discrimination, aimed at preventing the poor from protesting. A new lawsuit claims that Seattle effectively levied a “protest tax” by allowing police to use “military-grade munitions” to break up unruly crowds. Only people who are rich enough to buy armor have a First Amendment right to protest, or so the argument goes.

This argument is absurd from top to bottom. In fact, the lawsuit focuses on alleged incidents of police violence that came on July 25 — amid a violent riot that injured 59 police officers and landed one of them in the hospital. Rioters had fired mortar fireworks at the cops. Yet the lawsuit twice claims that police acted “in the absence of an immediate safety threat.”

The “protest tax” lawsuit

Five protesters — Jessica Benton, Shelby Bryant, Anne Marie Cavanaugh, Alyssa Garrison, and Clare Thomas — had the gall to make the outrageous “protest tax” allegation in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court on Monday. They claim that Seattle violated their First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights by allowing the police to use “excessive” force. Yet the most eye-catching claim involves discrimination in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection clause.

“Only those who have the means to purchase extensive protective gear can engage in 1st Amendment speech in the streets of Seattle, where its police force is not a source of protection but of antagonism for protesters,” the plaintiffs allege.

The police’s “noxious gases, ‘blast balls,’ chemical sprays, and projectile weapons rendered a public street wielded by the community as a protest path into a war zone. Because protestors now must purchase expensive equipment to be assured that they will be able to protest safely, the indiscriminate use of weapons by SPD implicates equal protection.”

“Because the Seattle Police Department has acted above and outside the law in dispensing its unbridled force, and the City has failed to prevent same, the government effect is to establish a de facto protest tax: individual protesters subjected to SPD’s unabated and indiscriminate violence now must purchase cost-prohibitive gear to withstand munitions – even when peacefully protesting – as a condition to exercising their right to free speech and peaceable assembly,” the plaintiffs allege.

Now What? Census Bureau Will End Count a Month Earlier Than Expected

The Census Bureau announced that the 2020 census count will end on September 30 rather than October 31 as previously reported. Originally, counting for the census was supposed to be completed by the end of July. But the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for door-to-door visits by census workers and the deadline was extended to October 31.

A lot is riding on the census numbers. Not only will government benefits be divvied up based on its findings, but congressional representation will be determined as well.

But about 4 in 10 American households have yet to return a census form either through the mail or online. In-person visits from census workers will resume on August 11 and the census bureau says they will be able to complete the count earlier in order to meet the December 31 deadline established by the Constitution.

These last-minute changes to the constitutionally mandated count of every person living in the U.S. threaten the accuracy of population numbers used to determine the distribution of political representation and federal funding for the next decade.

With roughly 4 out of 10 households nationwide yet to be counted, and already delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, the bureau now has less than two months left to try to reach people of color, immigrants, renters, rural residents and other members of historically undercounted groups who are not likely to fill out a census form on their own.

The historic reluctance of illegal aliens to respond to the census is well documented, so it’s unclear how extending the deadline to end the count will include them. There are millions of others who simply refuse to be interviewed for any number of reasons. The liberal hand-wringing over counting every single person in America is ludicrous because it’s a physical impossibility to count 320 million people.

But it’s another convenient club with which to hit Trump and the GOP.

Democrats in Congress and many census advocates have become increasingly concerned that the White House is pressuring the bureau to stop counting soon in order to benefit Republicans when House seats are reapportioned and voting districts are redrawn.

As early as May, top career officials at the bureau said the bureau had already “passed the point” of meeting the current census deadlines.

The bureau is collecting a jillion gigabytes of data and has a constitutionally mandated deadline to meet. They are not going to be able to reach everyone. This is no different than any other census, despite the best efforts of the bureau.

The September 30 cutoff for counting is probably still too late. Officials at the census bureau have asked Congress for a 4-month extension of that end-of-year deadline so they can keep counting another month, but even that would probably fall short of what’s needed.

There will be lawsuits (of course) by liberal groups because census workers didn’t count illegals or other groups who vote Democratic. But given the severity of the pandemic, it’s a wonder the census will be able to count as many Americans as they will.

UK: Secret Court Papers Reveal ‘Rogue’ British SAS Squad Executed 33 Civilians in Afghanistan

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A Wheeling man pled guilty to conspiring with another person to produce child pornography. Randall Lee Peggs, 56, pled guilty to conspiracy to produce child pornography.

“These Project Safe Childhood cases are difficult but necessary,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “We work closely with our partners in law enforcement to investigate and prosecute these cases. We will always hold child predators accountable.”

Peggs admitted that he began talking with codefendant Elizabeth Haway, of Princeton, on Facebook in November 2018. Over the course of several months, Peggs and Haway conspired to produce child pornography of Haway’s 5-year-old child. The majority of their communications occurred on Facebook Messenger. Peggs encouraged Haway to record and send him nude videos of the girl. Ultimately, Haway recorded a video of the child that showed the child nude and sent the video to Peggs via Facebook in February 2019.

“As I searched her Facebook records further, I found two video files that were approximately 3 minutes and 21 seconds (each) in length that had been sent to another Facebook user,” Detective-Sgt. Steve Sommers said in the complaint. “I estimated the age of the child to be between 5 and 6 years of age,” Sommers said in the report. “I also observed that the bathtub had distinct cracking of the molding at the wall and bathtub and that the adult female had a tattoo on her finger of a smiley face (two dots and a line).”

Mercer County Circuit Court Judge William Sadler said that “lifelong damage has been inflicted on this child,” adding, “This child has lost innocence that can never be restored on replaced.”
