Who is this "kek" persona you anonymousses keep talking about?

I already inquired into the google forums about the topic at hand.
It was a very confusing inquiry, though as it revealed conflicting information.
"Kek" is said to be the expression Alliance-Faction Players see in the AllChat when Horde-Faction players type the common expression "lol" into the chat. This is referring the popular online game "world of warcraft".
It also seems like "kek" refers to some kind of ancient egyptian deity.
So, which is it? This is important for my essay.
