You underestimate human need to divide into groups and overestimate the drive for oneness. Many of these things are built into everything in nature, Humans decide to ignore nature sometimes, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not and nature bites back with a vengeance. Long term spiritual outcomes may be different, but for now we live in a physical world that can be adapted for good or evil. Sometimes dividing is a good thing, sometime it causes problems. What is good more society may be bad for the individual and vice versa. But to say that there are no meaningful divisions in human society is like saying all trees are the same because they are trees. It is a question of how you deal with those divisions, not if they exist.
