FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Beirut, Lebanon – A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III delivered U.S. relief assistance to Beirut, Lebanon, today, marking the first U.S. humanitarian aid delivery following the port facility explosion on Aug. 4.

The first flight, flown by the 816th Air Expeditionary Airlift Squadron from Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, delivered 11 pallets of food, water and medical supplies.

“The U.S. is actively engaged in delivering food, water, and medical supplies to the Lebanese Armed Forces to meet the critical needs of the Lebanese people,” said, Gen. Frank McKenzie, Commander, U.S. Central Command. “We are closely coordinating with the Lebanon Armed Forces, and expect that we will continue to provide additional assistance throughout Lebanon’s recovery effort.”

Two additional C-17 supply missions from within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility are scheduled to deliver more pallets of food and water within the next 24 hours.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) continues to closely coordinate with Lebanese Armed Forces to receive the shipment and to distribute the supplies to the people of Lebanon.

Future assistance is being planned and coordinated with the Lebanese Armed Forces, the U.S. Embassy-Beirut, and USAID to identify and meet the critical needs of the Lebanese people
